ANY website can have malicious code injected into it.

As long as you know HTML,JAVA, or web page structuring of any kind, any website can be hacked, period.

If you want to use Great-grandma in this equation, and you want to say she wouldn't know how to use Google, then you have to at the same time factor in Great-grandma's lack of computer awareness and call her an overall security risk. So it really doesn't follow that old age, or elderly users, are less likely to get themselves into trouble. Quite the opposite, I would say.

I thought GeSWall meant Grandma's Eternal Security Wall!

You speak with no knowledge of the exploit, but you talk as though you have first hand knowledge of what happened, how hilarious.

The exploit on fox news was a re-direct to a fake antivirus rogue site. The exploit on Ebay was a trojan that embeds itself into the webpages that potentially stole people's banking info while purchasing on Ebay.

Well I say God Bless your Great-grandma for using the net, ssj100, and I was trying to be humorous when I said I thought GeSWall stood for Grandma's Eternal Security Wall (I still think that is funny!). :)

like i said , GOOD antivirus will block such attack , in this case it was avast! , so it backup my claim , that antivirus will do most blocking for normal / average user out there , with OUT the need of all those expert security software's

    @boost

dont make me dismantled my claim to pieces , u disagree every time with different parts of my reply , so now we cover it all ( i hope) :D

    cheers

How do you save your downloads in your box? Many people dislike to use win xp so no sandbox for them, a targeted attack could kill your box and spread over your system, isn´t it? :D

hehehe I intuit it but don´t tell it to the vendor, I guess he won´t believe you.:D :D :D

I think this HTML exploit stuff is a old hat at least 8 years old and it is primary used on corrupt boards to infect its posters, loool. In the past some boards were closed due to malware spreading and using poc´s on innocent users.

@d.eye your demons seem to have confused your cognitive abilities, you should sometimes step up from hell. I expressed with my phrase that I know about these attacks.

The people writing the new crap are not in it for fun anymore, they are in it for economic or military secrets.

What about poor grandma that bought a Sony music CD a few years ago. Yes grandma's like Neil Diamond. Lo & behold they had a rootkit after playing it.
Oh yes I remember now how all the experts here just kept saying oh that abunch a fooey scare mongering before the Sony thang came out. At least Rus came out with his AR and exposed them.
Then there was the case of hard drives coming out of Tiawan with built in trojan.
The bad guys are still able to social engineer e-mail to trick people, even though the drive by became a very good way to nail people.
I predicted security suites would become the norm while the hard cores still keep saying how they need their separate apps.
If you took a survey on how many regular computer users in this world run a HIPS or Virtual box, I think you might be surprised at the few number.
Just because some can surf for 30 years without getting infected doesn't mean all can. I have cleaned my fair share of computers over the years too.
People will always download codex and other programs and get infected, It is human nature.

I guess what I am trying to say is don't believe these experts when they always say, it's just a theory. Time has already proved that wrong thinking.
I am sure they thought they had good intentions.

I don't post much here anymore for good reasons but I still check in now and then and every once in the while something gets my gourd.

You only feel as unsecure as the amount of security software on your system.;)

I've never had any malware either, and I've never had any positive detection either, only false positives.

    That´s right.

Totally agree with Controler. Maybe someone remembers my thread about bios rootkits three years ago it was a no-go topic. Years later nobody would raise their voice if one had concerns about bios rootkits.

BTW, I noticed that one can only scroll 1000 posts back.

Even if you use the computer for 20 years and your pc never got infected...means nothing to me. It can happen tomorrow. Never underestimate the tomorrow's malware. Actually considering the 98% of the security companies and their skills I would be really concerned for the next day.

I believe it's more an issue of what those malware creators who have the talent and the creativity decide as their target.

Consider also that they can find online such a huge number of totally unprotected home PCs that makes no sense spend time to get in "protected" home machines.
