Luang Namtha in the Lao People's Democratic Republic

    $265/month for 768K/384K ADSL

We used to have a satellite connection but switched to ADSL because it is less expensive and faster. We had to wait for ADSL to become available, and then for the telephone company to run a line 2.4 km to our home.

Here is a link to the ISP.

1800 Indian rupees = 38.4408 U.S. dollars for 756 KBPS/256 KBPS, very expensive compared to US and Europe. Absolutely essential for me though and at least its justified by my making good use of it.

Live in the UK, and still in my first year of my O2 home premium contract.

20 meg adsl connection (unlimited - though subject to a fair usage policy that I have never triggered with monthly bandwidth exceeding 300gb some months and 500gb in one month)

    - Had the first 3 months free (not sure if this bit is still available).
    - £9.79 a month after that (getting a £5 reduction for having a pay & go mobile with them)
    - £75 cashback from "one of those cashback sites"

So with all that my first year of internet is costing me £13.11 for the 12 months (or about £1.09 / $1.73 per month .. was no option for that, so voted "$10-$20")

I watched a program on tv here in the UK a few weeks ago called THE GADGET SHOW. They were visiting Japan to see if the technology really is more advanced than the rest of the world(that's always been the rumour). So they stopped this Japanese woman and asked her what her broadband speed was and she said 1000/mps. It takes her 3 seconds to download a blu-ray movie.

I've heard the rest of the world are only held back by greedy service providers who drip feed us the improvements in speed so they can fleece us for extra money giving the 'impression' we are getting a faster service. I find it absolutely disgraceful that we are forced to have only 10/mps and they have got 1000/mps. What gives?

I would pay about $16 for 100/10Mbit but my tenant association have decided the fee for broadband to be included in our appartment fee.

    Completely, 100%, Absolutely, Positively Agree

We in Canada pay way too ~ Snipped as per TOS ~ ! In fact, some of the highest prices in the world with some of the slowest speeds.

    Here's just 1 example here in B.C. - 15 Mbps - $55 canadian

    Have a look - http://www.shaw.ca/en-ca/ProductsServices/Internet/Extreme/default.htm

The "High Speed Lite" was so slooooooooow, i couldn't even watch youtube without pulling my hair out

    Crap that's expensive!!!

I'm paying 30$ for 1mb but they changed the plans and now it's 2mb for 30$
Still the haven't changed it, I HATE THEM

Believe it or not, I pay the astonishing (for me) amount of $150.

$100 = 8 MBps Download/4 MBps Upload = my home ADSL 2+ unlimited traffic connection.

$50 = 2 MBps Download/1 MBps Upload = my personal mobile 3G unlimited traffic connection.

Very expensive prices, in my opinion. :doubt:

Laos is a "least developed country" and the high price of internet access here only helps keep it that way.

    30$ 1MB
Though they lowered the prices so it should be 30$ 2MB now, but those bastard keep refusing to increase my F**K** speed. :thumbd: :thumbd:

    And you know what,?
Since they announced they were increasing speeds, instead of increasing my speed, they lowered it, now i download at 512k, even slower than before. F**K em

    Hiiii
In India ,almost all ISPs are providing maximum of 4-8 Mbps speed.
    U have a 2Mbps(Not 2MBps) connection. And u r getting 300-400KBps (not Kbps). So u r getting maximum speed with no loss.

one KBps equals one kilobyte per second
one kilobit per second (Kbps) equals 1000 bits per second (bps).
    one byte=8bits.
    B=Bytes, b=bits.

    understood??;)

Also, Luang Namtha is less accessible compared to Vientiane and Champasak. That is why it is expensive to set-up telephone lines, etc. I pay about 25$ per month for a 64 Kbps / 128 Kbps WiMax connection here in Vientiane.

But i decided to jump on the DSL/Fibre internet bandwagon

    I get 20/3 for 50 Euro.
But I have to mention that I also get my digital television and phone with that too. Overall, I am happy with it, until I can get a super fast 100/100 line.
