GHOST 15.1 vs Paragon Software Solution

Dear users of imaging software or better dear group =)


I was a long time Acronis True Image user after being a huge fan of Norton Ghost (V3.x ...).
Acronis did a good job once and had a nice GUI but then they got insane with their version management and I spend more time in their forum looking for solutions of porblems that arose with Acronis TI that I bought Norton Ghost 15 and then update.

Since then I could problemless recover my crashed boot Windows C from images (incremental). I even could convert an image into a VDI or so and start that in VirtualBox!


But now I read so much fancy stuff on the Paragon site like adaptiv restore V3, SSD and so on that I ask myself and you as experts whether you would suggest me to buy a Paragon product!?

Well, I would spent a lot of money in this case if the software works. No question that!

But I am confused about the Paragon website and do not know if their is difference between a Paragon HardDiskManagement product (V11 ?) and Backup % Restore product for example in creating images, restoring them (browsing images in Win7 Explorer - this is genuine and very easy with GHOST).
I know that HDM has partition capabilities and that is ok since I need them anyway.

So should I buy HDM 11 PRO and would it be in any whay improved about Norton Ghost 15.1 (that is pretty old)?

Would it be faster?

In my experience, Paragon programs are good and reliable. Some learning will be necessary if you come from other type of programs.

You can easily create and restore images. It is possible to browse images in Windows Explorer, they must be "mounted".

Hard Disk Manager is the best all-around Paragon tool. If you spend some time in the Paragon site, you will be able to pinpoint its differences with other programs. Also, bear in mind that there are two versions of HDM, Suite and Pro, with very different costs, and that a new version 12 will be launched soon. thank you. SO, I will go for HDM (pro I think) but only if I can get some information on advantages over Ghost 15.1.
Is it faster?

I know, HDM has all the partition fancy and that is great but I am a great user of Puppy (linux) and have therefore always my hands on some great harddisk tools always bootable per USB Stick, HDD etc.

Anyhow, I like to have all in one tool and WINPE is cool and helpful also!

since there are 8 billion people on the world and some have pc's and some want to use imaging software and to backup their boot drives...
and there is NO no NO no good review on the internet in my language (German) or English that compares really (- without biases and taking provisions like full versions etc. or a god damn capitalistic paer magazine - God, where has the Internet went I knew once ....) the imaging tools at hand. May be there are 5 big onces and 5 smaller once free and non free... should be doable for commercial websites and magazines, shouldn't it?


I just bought Backup & Recovery 11 Home so I can test it against Symantec Ghost 15.1 and then give it to my grands. Since I am not willing to do any deeper testing and since I am earning my money in another way I only installed it on my C: drive next to Ghost!
C: is my Windows 7 32bit boot drive and images / backups go to another HDD that is D: and inernally conected as a SataII drive...

C: is about 50Gig and and both tools did an 1:1 at best compression. Paragon took 35 min. !
Ghost 13 min.

Ghost 27 gig

Paragon is set to do incremtal updates and Ghost differentials since it can not make incrementals. All I can tell you now is that I do not notice when Ghost does a diff! I got a AMD X4 and 4 GB. It is fast and in the background. Paragon was not fast! Was nearly as slow as a 1:1 though incremental?!?!

Settings up a schedule for images in Paragon 'calenar' is a joke compared to software from 2011/2012.
ghost is more flexible and better here too.

So in a week I will do a boot CD restore of Ghost and Paragon and then I will or sure give it to my grand pa

 

the biggest problem with paragon is the backup and restore being too slow, especially the backup process. that is the only reason why I did not use paragon for backup and restore. otherwise all good with paragon.

 

Same here...love Paragon and it's never let me down, but it is slow.
