I always had manually imported the lists, by the way... recalling memory some reliable alternatives are:

AdFender - The Ultimate Ad Blocker: adfender.com
    Bfilter: http://bfilter.sourceforge.net/
    Zeroserv: ranish.com/zeroserv

Tools that run outside the browser... the former is basically the same as a clean adblock (RIP), the other two need an .ini file manipulation.

Just had an idea: Check the AB+ forum for the code of the allowed urls and put into my BLOCKED list :)

Bfilter runs on linux too, and works fine... while for the other I admit you're right.

I was just listing some applications: who has other options could well list them here!

I think other Adblock add-ons will become popular soon. Shame on ABP! :thumbd:

There honestly aren't that many reputable options out there, strange as that may be for the practice of ad blocking being so common.

Well since ABP worked so well I don't think people saw a need for alternatives until this fiasco happened.

It will take time for new extensions to become as well known and used as the original ABP.

A quick word frequency analysis of the current (July 9) Adblock Plus whitelist shows the following results:
    • google 1417 occurrences
    • doubleclick 221 occurrences
    • googleads 170 occurrences
    • googlesyndication 94 occurrences
    • googleadservices 80 occurrences
    • adsbygoogle 63 occurrences
    • adsense 33 occurrences
    A cosy 'community' indeed :p

Fake or not, I wonder who that so called "community" represents... I don't remember electing or appointing any of them to do a task in my name. It's not really a big difference between this "community" and a big corporation; both of them claim they know what's better for me, and most likely both are wrong :)

There's that and even more stuff in there I don't feel belongs in a whitelist. I was totally wrong about Google having "acceptable" ads after looking into it and trying out going without a blocker for a day (damn that was painful too). There is a LOT of really obnoxious crap that gets thrown your way, it's not just "text". I'm glad I use Edge instead, but, as I said previously, the subscription lists themselves could have this same issue.

Again, what advantage does it have compared to Adblock Plus with deactivated Acceptable Ads o_O

It's snappier. And it isn't Adblock Plus :)

The decision isn't purely utilitarian. Principles are important too; I for one simply don't want to use software that was made by a company I no longer trust.

Okay - but that indignation doesn't alter the fact that Adblock Plus still blocks/does not block exactly what is defined in the filterlists. And as mentioned earlier, I doubt that Adblock Edge would be further developed if Adblock Plus will go south.

OK, I'm going to ask another question: what about Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus? Is it working with Edge? If not, is there an alternative (other than modifying chrome/css files by hand...)?

ABP has worked well for me. So has Ghostery. I don't remember seeing any adds for a long time. Like many people have said. This has been addressed over, and over again. Hopefully those not satisfied will find a better alternative. I like the ideal of taking the allow list, and just adding it to my block list. That is if I start getting annoyed with some adds in the future. I must not be visiting sites using adds on the allowed list or maybe I just have not noticed if the adds are less intrusive. I'm using Fanboy's annoyance List, Easy Privacy, and Easy List.

    Principles? In the software world?
You should live in a cave then, because everyone is evil out there.
There are maybe 117 honest people in the world. Maybe.

I've heard plenty of claims about this Adblock Edge, but haven't seen any real evidence of any changes other than what's noted by TheWindBringeth and tlu.

I wonder why is it that so many people are glad of things which are modified by others that they can do themselves. Just like the CCleaner Slim's lack of a checkbox (and portability).

Because if the offending feature is left out in the first place, the option to disable it can never be taken away? I've heard of cases where acceptable ads was re-enabled upon updating the addon after users had left the box unchecked. If ABP is being paid to let things through (and Google probably gave them a lot), then it stands to reason that they'd much prefer the check box checked and it wouldn't be nonsense to think they could in the near future say "deal with it".

Allow me to save you some trouble - you no longer need to look for 116, only 115. :D It got a little bit easier. :D

I'm afraid that I have witnessed that behavior a few times before. If memory still serves me well, it used to be after each upgrade. Not only that, but it would also reset my lists to Easylist. I always used Fanboy's. That behavior was enough to make uninstall it, plus using way too much RAM for the little RAM that I got. :ouch:

This behavior was experienced on Chromium.

    -edit-

I may have mentioned that before, maybe at some other thread. Not sure. So, sorry if I already mentioned, but my brain is tired now. :D

What will be worse is Easylist taking payments to keep advertisers off their lists. Then you're really screwed unless you want to do a lot of manual labor. They may already have done so, there's no way to tell unless someone comes out and proves it.
