Hi All, Some of my favorite applications are freeware/donation ware. Applications like SpyBot Search & Destroy, CCCleaner, SpyBlaster, I've donated to. While I was under no obligation to donate, I use these programs & felt good about contributing to the authors, so are you a: a) Giver b) Just a user Choosing "Giver/Just a user" is not limited by my humble 3 examples. If you use it do you....
Re: Donations Please If I report a bug or a false positive or an approved improvement by the author of the freeware, do you consider this also as a donation ? After all I spend my valuable freetime on that
Hi Erik, No just $. Using that criteria, after buying commercial software, then making a suggestion would count as a donation. As I spent time thinking & taking time to jot it ddown & get it to them. Or making a suggestion on how the Red Cross could improve operations, is hardly the same as, giving $. Take care rico
In that case I vote for "Just a user", because I can't agree with you. If the company would give me a $-donation for all my efforts, than I would give a $-donation. For me it has to work in both directions and I'm not obliged to report bugs, false positives, improvements, ideas, etc. If I do this and I always do, I consider this as a contribution in kind and sometimes a suggestion of any user can be alot more worth in $ for a company, than a one-time donation of $10.
If I try a donation ware app and it is a servicible stable program I am more than likely to donate. But if a program is advertised as freeware I do not contribute.
some of the earlier freeware that has now become shareware started off as donations. There are 3 that I donated too 3 or 4 yrs ago that are now shareware. Each of these companies sent me a lifetime licence with regular upgrades. Mailwasher (pro) ( firetrust) Benign (firetrust) Ad- aware se plus (lavasoft) so you never know what your little donation can actually turn out to be.
im just a user, but when i get a job and credit card/paypal, i may donate to programs like spybot s&d.
i recently voted for Bill in the "vote for winpatrol" plea if anyone else rates his software i suggest they consider doing likewise
Hi Erik, That's news to me that SpyBot S & D has a paid product. I just visited there site & could not find anything. Perhaps you could provide a link. I'd be interested to see the difference between the paid & donation ware products. rico
I've read this once at SWI and it won't be easy to find that post back. I will try but it won't be easy.
