Free android antiviruses with real-time scanner

Are there any good Android antiviruses that have real-time scan and are really and truly free (not some stupid trial that says free but then there is a note in description that it's just a 7 day trial -> McAfee example).

So far i've found these two that carry a wel known name. Haven't even bothered with others since they feel unreliable coming from unknown vendors.

I've camped with Dr.Web for now as it looks and feels the most reliable though AVG offers some other functions like task manager and stuff like that.

Dr.Web is good. I have a paid for license for it.

There is Webroot, Lookout, Netqin, and alot of others. I use Webroot though. Its got a nice clean interface, its light, and has the features I want.

 

The only other ones that I have heard of are Lookout and NetQin.

At first I wasn't sure about the company since I have never heard of them but, appearently HTC has invested in them and some of their other software comes bundled with Nokia phones.

I've used Webroot for a few months and have never had any issue. I am not sure what the cost will be, if any, once the product comes out of beta. I was tempted to use F-Secure's free anti theft for mobile. But it's not available in the android market and I did not want to root my phone. I realize you are asking for an av scanner though.

Not even economical. Some ISP's "unlimited" data package isnt really unlimited and they will turn off your service for surpassing the limits. Not to mention a cell phone is on a much slower network than a PC.

 

I am using it and really, it is not using a lot of data.

I have on a 1 GB plan each month.

But I am normally only using about 200 mb with BluePoint, Email, Browser and all that stuff. I use my cellphones data connection every day.

I do not think that BluePoint Security uses more than 10-20 mb pr month, but I have not done any control.

But compare it to downloading signatures every day/every week to your cellphone.

 

Every week? You act like viruses are crawling all over the Android market in reality they are still very contained. There are maybe 100 out there tops. Most are the same thing just repacked and put on the market place.

 

Sure Android malware isn't as wide spread but even just 1 such cap can ruin your life. Especially since some even root your phone which in the end means in most cases even warranty will be void (as far as i know you're not really allowed to root them even though you still can).

I've checked DrWeb and it's not really scanning anything when i'm using the phone (meaning battery shouldn't be affected at all) and it's only consuming 2MB of memory. It's only scanning when i actually download/install something to my phone. And since it's free to use i really won't complain. Better safe than sorry.

Though it's hard to say which one to use. SHould we use well known names from the PC segment or should we trust pretty much unknown companies that are specialised in Android (or mobile) security like DroidSecurity that's running AVG or the Netqin. I have no clue which one is faster to react to all the garbage that does appear on Android market...

 

I use lookout myself. But am always on the hunt for something new. Im looking forward to whenever Eset release the beta for Android.

It seems i had a good reason to stick with well known vendors like AVG or DrWeb. NetQin might be a pioneer in mobile AV siolutions but they are still completelly unknown. DrWeb for now and when avast! is out i'll go with their solution.

 

So are most viruses/malware period. But that 100 or so will turn into a 1000, and on and on. Mobile is the new target, and, if the threats are going to require the "old school" style of keeping up to date definitions, it might get difficult to keep protected. There is no "unlimited" in the mobile market now, as far as I'm aware of. All the carriers went to data caps, which means every bit of data counts.

 

I use Ahnlab V3 Mobile, it came already installed with my smart phone. I have no idea about its detection capabilities, but it is very popular in Korea.

My Verizon plan is unlimited.

 

Verizon, T-mobile and Sprint in the US are unlimited.... For now. Also, AT&T if you are grandfathered in.

 

Techinically, both Verizon and T-Mobile have "caps", 5GB to be exact. After that amount per cycle, they throttle you. Yes, I know, but I still consider that a form of capping. Not that I'd ever expect anyone to use 5GB worth of data per month on a phone. If you're on AT&T, you have worse problems than a cap..which they also have, and, they charge you per extra GB. Again though, the way AT&T is treating their customers, you have more to worry about.

I use the beta of norton mobile security. I found it searching for "norton" in the marked. Easy, good looking, scans every app you install, live update by schedule, scan by schedule. Really nice.

It is in beta now and I dont know if or how much it will cost when it is released.

 

It won't be free, that's for sure.

I haven't seen it enforced on my T-mobile plan. I used 9 GB on month. I can hit 5GB per month easy steaming music and podcasts

 

Enjoy it while it lasts, is all I can say. Mobile companies really seem to be sticking it to customers lately.

 

I'm sure it will disappear soon, with the AT&T/T-Mobile merger on the horizon.
