Take a look at this site. http://www.outpostfirewall.com/guide/ RISC OS has made killer directions for installing Outpost and getting it running. If you still have problems, you can get all the help you would ever need at the Outpost forum, http://www.agnitum.com/forum/
It's a fun thing to learn and not really so hard.
The hardest part is making sure you have ZA completely off your computer before you install Outpost. We have instructions for that too. :D

    hey bethrezen,

Sorry to say bethrezen all rule base firewall are gona be more complicated than applications ones. Some rules base firewalls will auto create rules for u, but first of all you need to know how a rule base firewall works, before u can apply rules to it. Don't worry bethrezen, i'll help u out, or someone around here will.

btw i don't use out post, but i'm have a lil experience with rule base firewalls ;)

Hi Bethrezen! Picked these links up at D-Shield.

    http://www.linux-firewall-tools.com/linux/firewall/index.html
The Linux has configuration scripts which you can copy (if you have a Linux based firewall).

    http://www.firewallguide.com/
This can help you understand what firewalls are all about.

    http://www.kerio.com/us/kpf_home.html
Kerio is free for personal, at-home use. It's a good firewall, simple to use. Final version of Kerio Personal Firewall 2.1 released. KPF now includes documentation with installation.

I understand your dilemna with Outpost. It's an excellent firewall but a wee bit confusing to a novice. Hang in there! :)

now you can do this.....if need be find a website that offers help on making rules for the firewall you choose an copy the rules down on paper....time comsuming yes.....worth it yes.......hey remember that first day going back to school....those jitters...making new friends.....this is just the same thing......an you'll do just fine..
make your rules before you even install the new firewall.........an then you'll be ready to go....

Snowman , you mentioned having downloaded LNS.
    Here's a site for you: http://itsec.commontology.de/firewalls/lns/lns-rules.html

No need to jump at it right away, though.
You can safely surf with the Enhanced RuleSet until you feel comfortable to start making changes.
BTW, once you have loaded the enhanced ruleset, i recommend you save it as say, snowmans_ruleset or any other name you like, and load that ruleset from then on. This will ensure you always have an unmodified enhanced ruleset right there available at a click.

Mind you, most if not all these rules are already included in the enhanced ruleset. But the site helps you to understand the making of rules, and what each one does, and the reason why it's included in the ruleset.
Don't look at the internet filtering module ( where you can see the rules) and you've got an application firewall in your hand.
You ever try to start an app and it doesn't because it's blocked, then look at the log module and the entry being blocked will show up. All you would have then to do is click on the entry and click on the button create a rule at the bottom of the screen and would be able to create a rule on the fly directly from there. You then go to the internet filtering module and see your new rule right in there !
