ESS & Freeze Problem.

Hello Eset.

My ESS version is 5.2.9.1 with Windows 7 SP1 32 bit.

A couple weeks ago, I had another freeze problem again but this time it was really fatal!
My computer stuck at the welcome screen all the time and often went with BSOD after that. I couldn't enter the desktop at all, so I tried running in Safe Mode to enter the desktop. At that moment, my guess told me it had something to do with ESS, so in Safe Mode I uninstalled ESS, rebooted and finally everything was back to normal again (no more hang ups at the welcome screen), but another problem appeared : I always got this pop up notification from Windows saying that "Windows Detected a Hard Disk Problem" in drive C and D, asking me to back up all my important datas and to fix or replace my hard disk.
I tried every possible options : reformatted my PC, chkdsk, scan with ESS in safe mode, scan with Malwarebytes but no result at all.
So the last possible option was replacing my hard disk with a brand new one (it really cost a bit expensive for me ).

Well, right now everything is ok again with my computer.
I still like ESS but I don't want it to cost me another hard disk of my computer.

Any software-related problems (BSOD, malware infection, etc.) have no effect on the physical condition of hard drives.
As for the BSOD you encountered, I'd suggest that you compress the crash dump, upload it to a safe location and PM me the download link. Most of BSODs I know of were caused by 3rd party software or bugs in Windows Filtering Platform. The dump should reveal if that's the case or if the crash was actually caused by ESET.

And when that BSOD appeared, I could read the top words saying more or less : "Windows is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer" and followed by memory dumping.

From what you are describing, plus the steps that you took with reformatting, I don't think that the problem is with ESS. I think that is simply the program that was trying to access the drive at the time. It sounds more like a failing drive. Remember that all disk drives fail. It's not a question of 'if', only 'when'. Symptoms like you describe are often the only notice that you get. By the time that Windows tells you there is a problem, it may already be too late. So do as Windows said and immediately backup your important data. DO NOT WRITE to the disk! Anything that you write could overwrite tracks that hold the low level formatting. If that happens, the disk and any data on it is unrecoverable. I've had it happen to me.

Replace the drive before you waste any more time and risk losing important data at the worst possible time.
