DrWeb Configuaration

Hi

I'm trying this AV out at the moment. Just wanted some advice on setting it up.

I have it setup pretty much as it is here at the moment:

I suppose the main parts are what settings you think are best for:

Scanning - All Files or By Format? Using All files at the momemt.

And Actions and Archives, I have setup exactly as in the Wilder's screenshots, do you think this is the best way of handling the objects?

PS. Where can I download a trial of BOClean, can't find one on the site, want to try before I buy.

Is it really necessary to run Spider Mail? My E-mail would still be protected if I didn't wouldn't it?

I have Dr Web set up exactly as advised by wilders, although the default settings should be fine. You may see the occasional false positive because of the strong heuristics of this AV.

Your e-mail will still be protected without the spidermail installed/enabled but most people prefer running with it.

You cannot trial BoClean. You decide to pay, then if you think the program is not what you expected, you can ask for your money back. This is a genuine offer by the software authors who are confident you will like the program.

BoClean is simply a running guard; you cannot carry out on demand scanning for trojans. However, it is one of the best anti-trojan programs together with TDS and Trojan Hunter and is ideal for newbies as once installed it simply sits in the system tray until a trojan is detected.

Dr Web and BoClean would be a good combination.

Not sure about Spider Mail though, it uses more memory then than Spider Guard which I find strange.

That's a bit annoying about BOClean. I'll trial Trojan Hunter though. I'm put off my TDS as I believe it has a big footprint. Do you know if this is true?

 

I have no personal knowledge about TDS so I cannot comment upon resource knowledge.

However, previous threads here at wilders indicate that on low spec machines there may be a system drain. TDS users will confirm whether this is an accurate statement.

However, your recent threads on resource usage for both AV and AT programs suggest that this is an important issue for you.

If this is the case I would tend to BoClean/TrojanHunter together with Dr Web.

If you are looking for spyware protection, I would recommend Spyware Guard and SpyBot Search and Destroy-both freeware programs.

Pan we are getting off the theme of your original thread. If you would like any more comments/suggestions on Anti-trojans you may receive better/quicker advice posting in the anti-trojan board.

Yeah it is.

I wouldn't say my system is too bad (Athlon 700, 256RAM)

But I still don't like having applications running in the background taking say 25MB of memory when it isn't necessary. I would still be like this if I had a P4. I tried Avast and it ran 4 different processes I think, adding up to about 40MB. Too much! DrWeb has impressed me so far anyway. Yeah I use all thise spyware programmes as well as Spyware Blaster and AdAware. And also IE-SPYAD.

I'm thinking of trying KAV 3.5 along with DrWeb, not sure which I would use as resident and which as backup though. KAV obviously better for trojans as resident and DrWeb better for virii. Probably DrWeb resident though as virii is probably a bigger concern.
