Don't now why I am running out of space.

Hi all - I would be surprised if this has not been answered yet somewhere. but I have not found it. I am also surprised I even have this issue.

As simply a possible:
I have a 300 GB USB drive divided into 2 primary partitions:
J drive 200 GB
T drive 100 GB

I created a task to backup only the T drive (100 GB) to a 250 GB USB drive. Backup options include My Computer, Disks & partitions. However, TI is, I think, trying to backup the full 300 GB physical drive. I am guessing that's the case since I always run out of space. It always stops with "Operation stopped - disk is full"

There must be options I am not using that would make this work. Do I need to make one or both a logical drive instead of a primary partition? Or are there options within TI to fix this?

I probably could tinker away and figure out something, but any shortcuts to the goal would be greatly appreciated.

If the task ran twice before then the third time it is likely to find the drive full - depending on the used space on the 100.

 

Are you making complete images only, or is it supposed to be making subsequent incremental or differential images?

HI - Thanks for responses. I am backing up to a completely clean 250 GB disk. Happens to be my H drive, and windows explorer shows 232 GB size, 232 GB free. When I created the task, I chose My Computer, Disks & just partition T. So it is just an initial full backup - no second run.

I will worry about differential backups after I get this initial one resolved. Just FYI, I am successfully running several other full & differential backup tasks.

Again thanks forgiving it some thought. A bit of a puzzler to me.

Please make sure you use the latest build (8101) of Acronis True Image 11 Home. To get access to updates you should first register your software.

TI only backups up the sectors in use, not counting the page/hibernation files, which are recreated by Windows when you boot up in windows. So the backup should be no larger than the amunt of space in use on the source drive, usually less due to file compression.

IF you backup file is larger than the used space on the source drive, that would be a very intersting problem that I haven'theard mentioned before. Are you doing sector-by sector backups?
