Be advised that there is a form of COOKIE that will bypass cookie managers........I noticed this some time ago an tested thereafter.........
there are actually two forms.....but only one seems to have the potential of dangerously violating privacy.....although both can bypass cookie managers.

by closely checking your index dat file you may discover which websites are using these cookies.......oddly when I cleaned the index dat file the cookies were removed by cleaning the hidden URL....NOT BY CLEANING THE COOKIES>

use of common sense will alert you to these cookies...you know what cookies you should have and have not.............so as not to confuse anyone.....both cookies begin with: default@ please noticed that I said both cookies......but only one can not as yet be blocked....

the only certain way I know of at this time to prevent these cookies is to place the website in the restricted zone with cookies disabled.........this does prevent this.
personally I can see no reason for such a clandestine type of cookie...with an obvious design of bypassing security of a person choice.
two offending website are: Yahoo and Google....there are others...........an its spreading.

complete testing of <yayoo>....in each case the Cookie bypassed the following programs:

    AdShield......cookie bypassed program

    CookieMuncher.........cookied bypassed program

WebWasher(with cookie filter on).....cookie bypassed program

further....each time cleaning of the idex dat file "hidden url" cleaned the offending cookies

To each his own in this matter.....I wont debate any of this.....once the spyguys put these cookies out in full force the results are very perdictable.....tracking begins a new stage.........

will do further tesing using other programs such as proxo later............

AdShield is not a cookie manager, it never touches them. It was created only for ads and popups. Take care.

Snowman - Could you be so kind as to post a couple of links where these cookies will automatically be picked up? I'd like to test/examine them.

Can you confirm whether you do use IE_SPYAD or not?

(I'm not registered here and my email address, um, doesn't work).

    Thanks.

Adshield can block cookies if config properly.

    GHOST

please excuse me.......have had very little sleep for the past two days..........very tired....

Two of the offending websites are listed above

    the cookies were named:

    default@google.com
    default@yahoo.com
    default@com.com

GHOST there are other websites using these cookies.....an although In my heart of hearts I don't feel the websites deserve respect.......nevertheless, before I personally begin listed websites....I'll give them time enough to hear that they have been discovered......an the choice to stop using these cookies..........

Also....I fully expect to be flamed.....an fully expect offending websites to attack.....denie...make excuses....etc.
as stated above.....there will be no debate.....let each person see it with their own eyes.......an decide.

Hi, Snowman. This is news to me, but far out if it can. Would it be possible and practical in this forum to explain how to configure it? Thanks.

Snowy- Can you be more specific about the sites? I rarely go to yahoo, but I speend a lot of time at google and can't find any cookie with the word default in it. I'm wondering if I just haven't been to the right part of google or if I'm blocking the cookies without realizing it.

For those who want to know, I'm using mozilla and proxomitron, but I don't have anything set to block cookies.

I did a search in HOSTS (from S.Martin) for sites with .com.com
I found the following ones (all in the Group Various):
    adlog.com.com
    i.i.com.com
    image.com.com
    zrap.zdnet.com.com

I only mentioned here the sites in HOSTS that ends with .com.com

There is no site mentioned in HOSTS with the word google in it.

There are a lot of sites mentioned in HOSTS with the word yahoo in it.
Most of those sites are in the Group Yahoo; too much to mention here.
One in the Group Bnex, two in Various and three in Not-For-Everyone.

This was the Full HOSTS file, but without the separate "Adult-file-for-HOSTS" (and reason for that is that Steve wrote something on his site that that one was send to him by someone and was too big to go through for him; and I don't want to add an "un-authorized" list).

    Hi snowman!

I got your message and heeded it. As far as I can tell, and I went through this box with a fine toothed comb, I do not now have any of these cookies. (I hope. Gulp.)

I am intrigued and curious because I know you never make wild accusations nor claims. I have a hunch that these new, next generation cookies may have their roots in smart law-enforcement or something far worse. But, like viruses and worms, programs and code will be written to defend against them.

You said in your message that it was important to clean, most especially, the index.dat file. That is the "bread and butter" of my particular OS. Without them it won't work. I suppose I should be checking them for hidden urls?

Anyone here have a "hidden url scanning program?" I could really use one right about now!

I must also mention something else. Anyone could have impersonated you in the posting of that message! How do I know it was you?

    Best regards from Larry!

We have been discussing the request from the thread starter to remove/delete this thread, and parked this thread for the time being.

We have come to the conclusion, there's no reason to remove or delete. Our motivation has been posted over on Ten Forward, in especially here.

    regards,

    paul
