Oh no, not this stuff again. No, I'm not interested in these "cloud" based browsers, it's total overkill.

Well, I don't see how cloud based browsing will protect you from attacks. The difference is that the attack is taking place in the cloud and not on the local machine. I believe that local based sandboxing combined with anti-phising, ad-blocking and anti-exploit should be enough.

As mentioned in the article, the cloud attack can easily be disposed of on shutdown or whatever. It doesn't help against phishing, but exploits in your browser that will result in your files getting encrypted are a non-issue.

To clarify, of course I understand how this cloud based security can be handy, I'm just saying that it's not needed. You can protect a locally based browser just perfectly fine with the stuff that I mentioned. If you're really paranoid you can even use "micro virtualization" like Bromium, which is apparently now called HP Sure Click.

The problem is that stuff like Sandboxie has a tendency of breaking with updates. This will, presumably, be completely safe and survive any Windows update.

True, but I wasn't talking about Sandboxie. HP Sure Click, formerly known as Bromium will most likely not have any issues since it uses micro-virtualization, I believe this is almost like full virtualization.
