can someone help me rip and burn a cd, please?

hi, my Mum wants me to rip and burn a cd, i normally just keep things on my HDD so they normally just work for me. i tried to rip then burn it, but it only plays on my computer and not on her cd player. i don't know which region it is using or if that's even the problem.

here are some programs i've got, will one of them work? not sure why i even have them, i think i like installing things thanks.

WHY DOESN'T THIS STUPID THING WORK?? it works on every cd player in the house apart from the one she uses. can someone show me how to make it work?

 

OK then which format should i convert to? i've tried wma and wav. should i try MP3 next?

 

i don't want any help anymore. i hope no one else asks how to do this because i'll bow to peer pressure and not tell you.

 

Hi Ice, Certain brands of CD-Rs that can hold data as well as music wont play on cd-players, as you know. When you say you have tried to burn the music or dvd files, What programs and discs have you been using? oh, and what format are the files in?

hi, i've been using cd-rw's the disc will play on other players but not hers. the formats gets written to cda which is the same format as other discs she has which work. and they have been written from wma, wav and mp3

When cd's were first released they were able to store 650MB, after a few years they relised they could squesse a bit more memory in there and 700 MB cd's were released and are what are in use today.

However, these new 700 MB don't conform to the orginal 'bluebook' standard for CD's, so an old cd player will not recognise them.

Have you tired using the CD's you created in a newer CD system?

If you buy CD's that are 650 MB, then they should work on the
CD player

Also if the CD player doesn't have CDRW on it it won't read these types of disks, incidently some older CD players will not read CDRs either so if you do burn the CDRW onto a CDR and it still doesn't work on your Mums older player.

 

I dont know if you have Nero, but download a trial and check out the car thread i posted and see if that works. Hope I been some help, T

 

yes i have nero. i started in Ubuntu then booted to XP to use nero. so if i try a different cd it might work? the only other cd's i have are the same - 700mb cd-rw but a different make.

 

Try a different make of cdr not cdrw, and see if that works. T

 

OK thanks, when i checked which format her other cds were in i accidently left one in the drive and clicked burn by mistake anyway, it didn't work because it was a cd-r so you are probably right. is that why people buy cd-r's? because they are more likely to work? i really know nothing about it because i just keep things on my HDD.
