BootIt Bare Metal - Windows 2003 Server Hardware RAID

For Partitioning work, does BootIt Bare Metal work properly with a HP Server (Windows 2003, Hardware RAID, SAS Drives)? The only need now is to increase the size of the C: partition. It would be just a simple resize since no one ever partitioned the remaining 'large amount' of unallocated space.

It should, but given this situation (where you have unused space I assume right after the C: partition), you can use native diskpart and grow it that way. Server 2008 makes this way easier as expansion can be done live in Disk Management with no downtime. Diskpart is, I believe, a free MS download as part of their support tools.

 

The person I know who wanted to increase the size of the C: Partition successfully accomplished his goal. It turns out that there was a D: Partition with No files. He decided to Delete the D: Partition with Windows 2003 Server's Disk Management. Then he booted BootIt Bare Metal and successfully resized the C: Partition to use all of the unallocated disk space. He says that he is happy with the results.

Earlier he had tried to Resize the C: Partition using DiskPart, but kept getting an error. I am guessing that the Error was caused by the presence of the D: Partition just after the C: Partition. I read somewhere that DiskPart will not Resize a Partition that does not have unallocated disk space next to it.

 

That applies to all partitioning apps.

Diskpart has problems with shrinking partitions. It can't shrink smaller than the last unmovable file. Other apps can shrink smaller.

 

Correct...I assumed the unallocated space was immediately after the C: partition. If not, yes, Diskpart would not work unless the free space was moved right after.
