Attack Shield WS Uninstall/Install Issue

I have been unable to uninstall Attack Shield WS(free) from my Dell Dimension 8400 pc with 3.2Ghz P4, WinXP SP2, NOD32, Harden-It, Samurai, Counterspy, TrojanHunter, WinPatrol and Look'n'Stop due to Attack Shield Error 1316: A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\WINDOWS\Installer\SanaSecurity, Inc.-AttackShield.msi. I have also been unable to reinstall AS due to the above error. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Disable Samurai and see if that is blocking the install....if that isn't it, maybe counterspy is blocking the install.

Thanks dja2k for the advice. Unfortunately, the problem still exists even after disabling both Samurai and Counterspy individually and simultaneously. FYI, it appears that I was able to remove most of Attack Shield via add/remove programs in the control panel despite the problem. I am pretty sure that it is no longer active and loading at start-up. The only problem I have left is how to remove the AS entry from the add/remove programs list and completely rid it from my system.

Well for the left over registry and add\remove stuff, you could use jv16 power tools. It has all the removal tools you need.

you can also use the free TweakUI to remove those entries

 

I think that jv16 power tools is a more powerful registry cleaner and it has a free 30 day trial. Those 30 days are enough for him to remove what he has too and more. Not to familiar with tweakui, but it probably only removes the entry from appearing in the add\remove list, but jv16 power tools will remove the extra entries left in the registry.

How come you are uninstalling attack shield.I am tryng it out on my pc and don't seem to have a prob.Runs as stated.IDE drives.

But on my friends brand new pc with sata drive,what a mess.Memory leaks and conflicts everywhere.But then again,I can't get Nghost 2003 nor True Image 8 to work properly either.

Originally, I installed Attack Shield WS for the sole purpose of rootkit protection. Soon thereafter, I installed Samurai 2.6 with all of its options selected except for denial of service. I hypothesize and speculate that enabling Samurai's rootkit function and running it simultaneously with Attack Shield WS temporarily disabled the application filter of my Look'n'Stop firewall. This problem presented me with two possible options. To either disable the rootkit function in Samurai and leave AS active or leave the rk function in Samurai enabled and uninstall AS. At the time, I decided to uninstall AS because it consumed approximately 10Mb RAM in contrast with Samurai which ran on little or no resources.

Thanks for the reply CogitoErgoSum.I have tried to download Samurai through google and yahoo but keep getting dead links.Has it been shelved or maybe I'm not looking hard enough.
Can anyone provide a live download link please.

As far as useable links to download Samurai 2.6 are concerned, the two that I know of that I have posted below are not active at this time. Unfortunately, I have no idea what the problem is.

Just to rehash what I have said about Samurai 2.6 in another forum, I am a satisfied user of this hardening security application with all options selected except for the denial of service and rootkit feature and would like to take this opportunity to share my experience with the rootkit function enabled.

With it enabled I found that I was unable to access sysedit, command.com and my cd-rom/dvd. Additionally, I found that I could not install 16-bit software apps. and run SysInternals apps. such as RootKitRevealer.

Because of the above problems with the rk function, I recently installed UnHackMe(paid) to take its place and WormGuard(paid) to take the place of Attack Shield WS(free).

FYI, Attack Shield WS guards nine system processes, protects against buffer overflow attacks and possibly guards against rootkits. For a good "free" security and hardening setup I recommend Samurai 2.6 with the denial of service and rootkit function options disabled, Harden-It and Attack Shield WS or Harden-It, Secure-It and Attack Shield WS.
