I'm still running Ubuntu but it's encouraging to see that Linux distros are developing.

Using MX-18 for a week now and so far it's rock solid.

Coming from someone who hates Debain, swore they would never test it again (Mrk), picking MX Linux as best 2018 distro says tons about the MX team and their hard work.

My Desktop is Arch in KDE and I've never had a problem after I got it installed and setup, doing that once was enough for me. My two laptops are MX Linux, wife and her two sisters run MX. Easy installs, easy to use and trouble free.

MX linux is the best distro of 2018 and IMHO that will carry over to 2019. :D

I don't hate Debian - and this isn't Debian. It's based on it, but then, 90% of distros are.

    Ok maybe hate was strong.....

"Perhaps without Debian we wouldn't have Ubuntu and such. For that matter, we also wouldn't have pyramids without slaves. But that does not mean we should be grateful for slavery in giving us big stony architecture. Similarly, Debian may be a baseline for many other distributions. But on its own, without a thick layer of customization and changes, it fails horribly on the desktop. This test makes me sad and angry. Because I know an end when I see one. It's still a few years away, but it will inevitably come. Anyway, completely not recommended. My last venture into Debian this way. We're done." https://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/debian-9.html

I guess the reader can come up with their own milder word.

I guess that comes down to the definition of "based on" I'll sum it up with my definition.

MX Linux has nice easy installer for Debian. The MX team came up with some nice tools and MX package installer that includes Flatpaks. Other than that everything comes straight out of the Debain repos. They tweak the desktop and fix the things in Debian that less than advanced users might have problems with.

I have a real nice Saleen Mustang that's based on Ford. I have a real nice MX Linux based on Debian. The percentage of "based on" differs between the two.

For me and my laptop Debian/testing is really good. I installed it via Debootstrap from Live USB, so rather manual way, but this allowed me to have really minimalistic set of packages. It upgrades without manual intervention so far.

Great review and picks. Of those selected, I've only tried Mint 17 Cinnamon. I'm no longer distribution hopping but always on the look out for Distributions I might recommend to others who would rather not go my preferred distribution route which is listed in my signature.

I am in the process of downloading a installing MX Linux MX-17 Horizon in VirtualBox for a test run. Check that, downloading MX-18 Continuum.

USA still the best. But barely.
So MX-17 Horizon isn't LTS. What is it's EOL?

I just installed MX 18 and love it... it's great. From what I understand, the MX releases are once per year, near the end of each year, so MX 18 was released in December 2018... good for one year. No LTS (correct me if I'm wrong please).

Mrk certainly does. I think his problem is his writing style is too cute for some readers. I sometimes wonder whether he is British as he sways to a laconic, dry sense of humour, which I appreciate. He is very good at grasping irony.

As my MX-17 seems to have auto-updated to MX-18, I guess for me EOL was last month. :thumb:

    Code:
    Distro: MX-18_x64 Continuum March 14 2018

Good to see Australia still leads the world in combating racial and geographical stereotyping. ;)

Good to see insidious PC keeps the habit of introducing its rotten wherever it can.

He once said he was "fabulous" but I'm not sure he was referring to nationality.

That's mainly because a lot of them, like many Central and South Americans, and increasingly some North Americans, don't understand English. Though there are a few who understand English, but don't understand the English.
