the newest version of agnitum firewall= rock solid with no drawbacks; this company really works hard and keeps coming back again and again with a better product. :thumb:

If you are talking about the firewall only product, then that's true. Anti-Spyware module is a so-so .... and VirusBuster AV engine is decent at best.

I am not using Outpost Firewall Pro (OFP), I am using Outpost Security Suite (OSS). This has both the Anti-Spyware and AV engine; called Anti-Malware. I download malware frequently (on purpose). OSS has been pretty good at detecting these files. On occasion I do download malware the OSS fails to detect (same is true of many products). I pass this information on to Agnitum and within a day or so the maleware is now detected. Part of this is also checking the maleware against VirusTotal and Malware Scan and Online malware scan. Quite often that file that OSS failed to detect is also not detected by many of the other engines listed on those test sites.

The strong point is Outpost's Host Protection module, not one of these virus programs will be able to deliver it's payload unless I allow it; which of course I do not.

I am using Outpost Fw Pro 2009, and it really is rock-solid, easy to use firewall. Antispyware is ok, it catches a few spyware-cookies sometimes. I use SAS too, and Agnitums´s antispyware have never missed something that SAS detects.

I was wondering if a behavior blocker like Threatfire would interfere with the Host Protection module in OSS? How often does Agnitum update the firewall rules, anti-virus and anti-spyware files?

Is it like a classical HIPS? Any screenshots?

    Thanks

You can read their blog and see if it answers your question: http://agnitumblog.blogspot.com/

My main gripe so far is that the pop-ups all look the same and with no warning colors. Like green for trusted programs or red for unknown or rogue programs.

The host protection might be more like Zonealarm's Operating System Firewall than a traditional classical HIPS.

I tested OPfw on a setup where threatfire was installed...noticed hanging at shutdown...uninstalled threatfire and this problem vanished.

Yes, I roger that...I find OSS great and have the impression that it´s underestimated here at wilders...

    Here are some...

...I'm currently using OPFW with Host protection off and SSM 2.4.0.621 as the HIPS. No problems whatsoever on a 6 yr old P4. I would have no problems running only OP's Host protection, except I'm trying to contribute to the SSM Learning thread in these forums once in a while.

I have O.S.S. 2009 on my Vista Laptop for the past couple of days. Seems like the anti-virus part of it had some mixed reviews. It failed the VB100 Vista test, but passed with XP this month.

i agree. i just installed OFP 2009 last night, and btw i am running it with a Behaviour Blocker A2 Anti-Malware, and the 2 are not interfering as far as i can tell, but anyway outposts new firewall is a delight. i may have found a keeper. personally, i like the logging, and the rules writing. while not allowing me to establish a policy per-se, like Comodo, i find the set-up comprehensive and coherent.

Anyone running AVG 8 paid (no firewall) with this OP firewall? I am eventually thinking about putting this combo on my ACER Vista machine. Thanks

    Hi,

I've been keeping an eye on OPF for some years now and I can tell you: These guys have done quite a good job in the recent one year.
This 2009 version is light on resources, no disturbing pop-ups, relevant explanations when you have to give a red/green light and a solid level of HIPS. What else can an average user need who doesn't want to know every single event happening on his pc but wants to have a decent level of control? I've tried several HIPS with/without individual firewalls but so far this seems to be an optimum solution for me.
However, it is just my personal opinion coming from my average knowledge and common sence - like most of those people using a pc nowadays.
