Its been posted before. Too bad none of the previous posts actually go into detail regarding it. Btw, I've bought a license of it around 1-2 weeks ago and I think that its almost/just as good as Diskeeper. Here's a screenshot of it that shows how well it defragments my hard drive:

ehh its okay. got stuck on a few large files for me. and always needs admin rights to run...not sure why when perfectdisk does not...anyway its not bad. also boot time does not seem as thorough as perfectdisk is...im still playing with it. it does run A LOT faster for me than perfectdisk though.. not sure if thats good or bad yet lol

edit: seems that after running it on a 8% fragmeted drive as shown by perfectdisk this went to 0% and perfectdisk seems to agree the drive is 0% after checking it with both programs so it may very well work as good..

edit: boot time im seems to suck so far it first runs chkdsk then reboots then does defrag then reboots than take a good while before going back into vista again.. not sure i like this

Puran Defrag's Boot-Time defrag might take a long time if you have PIOZR enabled in its Automatic Defragmentation tab.

nope not enabled did a manual boot time not automatic and it does both chkdsk and then reboot and then boot defrag for me.. tried it three times

i can honestly say though i tested it on 4 different drives and after a defrag with puran 5.0 it shows 0% fragmented and perfectdisk shows the same on those drives so it seems to work just as good at defragmenting as perfectdisk does same with mft and page files with both programs they are perfect lined up in the same areas on the drive

I'm with PerfectDisk Technical Support and wanted to comment on this issue.

I have done some testing with Puran software and found that the defrag run was faster than PerfectDisk but even with all of the options enabled ,under the additional operations tab, it wasn’t as thorough as one of PerfectDisk’s SMARTPlacement, with aggressive free space consolidation enabled, defragmentation passes.

A SMARTPlacement defrag may take a bit longer than you expect due to all the work it is doing. A SMARTPlacement defrag is a very comprehensive defrag of the files and is designed to provide the best possible file system and drive performance - including defragmenting files, optimizing file locations to slow down the rate of re-fragmentation/speed up future defrag passes and consolidation of free space to improve write performance.

Although my opinion is biased, I do believe there are some nice features in the program that we may implement in the future but there are more shortcomings compared to PerfectDisk.

    Hi,
I would like to know, with a fresh OS install, why doesn't PD prompt me to defragment system files first via boot time defrag before regular online file defrag? Earllier versions would always prompt me for this?

Hi I'm biased either, dedicated follower of Ultimate defrag(Disktrix),whats your opinion about their file placement strategy, its totally user configurable,IMO a great +. I guess you tested them all. Like to know your thoughts. ;)

so far im pretty suprised at how good this defrag program is. it really does honestly nearly the same job for me as pd2008 did.. imo pd2008 was prob a bit better but this is really a very good program

We used to have user configurable options in earlier versions but we have since moved away from that as we have found that it’s better to offer a few best methods.

It’s possible for users, who experiment, to get themselves in trouble to customizing their file placement. What we have discovered is that the product is better by narrowing the defrag method into the ones that are most useful for the vast majority of users. A good example of this is in UltimateDefrag if you use their recency defrag. If used incorrectly, it’s possible to place critical operating system files, which can be designated as archive or low performing files, to the slowest part of the disk. You can inadvertently reduce system performance significantly.

We like the flexibility that UltimateDefrag offers but we have already been down that path to know from the perspective of a popular product that has seen a significantly larger user base that offering the SmartPlacement, consolidate free space and defrag only options is the best way to go.

We may be re-implementing some of our older more novel methods but not before taking into full consideration how to implement them without giving users the opportunity to reduce performance.

PerfectDisk will only recommend a boot time defrag if it finds that the metadata or other system files are fragmented beyond a preset threshold.
