this is in regards to zone alarm.....has anyone using ZA suddenly noticed in hkey users "zone labs/monitor/dialog control"
...this can be either a freeware or shareware version...

after experiencing numerous hours of very odd os behavior......I discovered the above listing in the registry......having used ZA for some time....have never once noticed this listing until yesterday......also, I check the registry several times during each day.....never once ever seen the above listing......suddenly it appeared!!
odder yet.....a port scan immediately disconnected my modem....as long as the above listing existed....
this is not a registration issue....the product is registered............after totally removing ZA...all.....re-installing...the odd behavior dis-continued......ON THE RE_INSTALL THE ABOVE LISTING DID NOT APPEAR IN THE REGISTRY.............on another note...a virus scan..plus a trojan scan did not show either existed......clean!
obviously listing don't suddenly appear in the registry....an whatever this is...does not like port scans...
due to other issues I strongly "suspect" tempering of my os.....possibly from the "outside"..such as the internet provider..
since the un-install....re-install several hours ago everything has been just fine.......any comments?

    snowman,

did you uncheck the "automaticly check for updates" checkbox?

    regards,

    A further note:

after a recent os crash..I have been re-installed numerous programs...plus a couple of new ones......the very same programs are running right now an the mentioned above ZA listing is not showing........the only odd..or perhaps I should say mistake..I have notice is that activeX was enabled in the restricted zone....(script detectors were not installed at the time...)

I don't "suspect" zone labs at this point...I don't suspect that some sort of trojan may have installed.....it would be gone now....
