    Hi,
Im playing around with Windows Home Server and want to protect it however as far as i can tell only the business editions of ESET support Windows Home server.

Surely this is wrong? Is there a version of ESS thats for your non business users? It is a Home server after all not a business server.

Windows Server versions are pretty expensive for home use IMHO, aren't they?

Could have been a give-away. I have 2 5-Cal license Windows 2003 SBS discs because they gave them away at a Microsoft events.

I have 1 installed on a removable hard drive I use in my testing machine and the other just collects dust.

Maybe that is how he came upon it? :)

Still, even if one purchases Windows Server for low price these systems are intended for workgroup environments and not for home use. The policy is that only Business edition can be installed on server systems. Period.

Oh I understand completely, I was just stating that maybe he aquired a copy of it for free like I did. ;)
I have a free AV on my server because of that rule. I only have it and 2 other computers running on my home network, with a laptop that sometimes gets involved. The rest have NOD32 Home edition or ESS on them.

Hold on, Firstly this is intended for Home use for backups and media streaming etc. Its not a full blown server, nor can it ever be as its way cut down...

Secondly its only about 100 quid to buy and thirdly i got it for free from Windows Connect on an 120 day trial period as a beta tester.

As it says on the MS website :- (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/windowshomeserver/default.mspx)

How the hell is this business class? Sounds like a pretty harsh stance considering the product.

    Hello,

We are still in the process of testing for compatibility with Microsoft Windows Home Server and although no major issues have been found, testing has not been concluded.

Licensing and pricing for ESET's products on Windows Home Server has not been finalized yet, so the only guidelines available are pricing for current server products. Those could change in the future based on market demand, but right now there has not been much demand for Windows Home Server support.

If you wish to use an ESET product on a Windows Home Server, I would suggest contacting your local reseller, distributor or ESET office and requesting a trial version of the server version of the product in question.

    Regards,

    Hello,

One thing to be aware of is that the business editions of software can have different expirations than the thirty (30) day trial versions available to home users because a business might take longer to evaluate a software package.
