Good Day - I just bought my first widescreen monitor. I am wondering if there is a way that my computers applications will appear properly in widescreen. Right now - I have 1" vertical black bars on each side (much like SD is on a HD TV display). I was able to get it to fill the screen using "stretch-o-vision" setting - but that's kinda weird since the aspect is all wrong. Thanks for your help! Deca:)

You need to update the monitor drivers. Have you gone into my computer/control panel/display/settings and adjust the resolution to fit your widescreen. Depending on the monitor, most 19" widescreen resolutions are set at 1440 x 900. But you would have to check the side of the box to see what your monitors default resolution is.

If you have a low end video card it might be able to go up that high. You can try 800x600 etc until you get it right.

Hello & Thank you Jonyjoe81. Yes - the monitor is what you suspected-1440x900. When I access the present Display settings it ranges from 800x600 to 1400x1050. I'm not seeing 1440x900. I attempted to update the existing driver using the Device mgr - but it returned no better result. This PC is a several year old Sony running XP - maybe this is why? Please let me know what to try next. Mucho gracias! Deca:thumb:

Most 16:9 ratio, wide screen monitors now can only display properly in their native resolution typically 1440 x 900 pixels. Any other (lower) display settings will appear stretched. Your video card must be capable of displaying 1440 x 900 pixels. You can buy a new decent ATI card for $50 or less.
