so I want to erase my swap space and I installed Secure-Delete tools.

    I use the command

    and it tells me

How is 2 passes insecure on a modern HD?

I see it in my system monitor and it says "disk sleep" under cpu

does it ever finish or does it run forever?

    PLEASE HELP?

EDIT; now it is saying 14% under cpu in sysmonitor? still wondering why its still running? only 1.9GIG for a swap doesnt seem like it should take more then 3 minutes?

Doesn't matter how new or old your hard drive is the more writes the harder it is to recover. Two writes isn't a ton.

No, it makes sense that it's taking a while.

I think either your write speeds are pretty low (like 10MB/s) or it's just taking a long time to generate the random data.

It actually does matter if its an old or modern HD, old HDs require at least 7 passes to be secure, New Modern HDs only require 1 pass pseudorandom to be secure, no they cant recover anything of any value after 1 pass psudorandom on a modern HD!

    Thanks for your input though!

Arg it finally finished after forever, how annoying.......windows does this in under 3 minutes...

    Can

    sudo ecryptfs-setup-swap

be trusted to encrypt my swap, every time I disable swap, it just restarts itself when I turn on my machine, will it startup and encrypt my swap every time i start Linux? and once again can it be trusted?

Here is some quick info in the link below, or search for more proof if you like? Join a Forensics Forum, their is so much proof around the web it shouldn't even be questioned anymore.

Doesn't really give much information but I'm also not interested enough to read beyond what you've quoted.

I assume it has to do with larger drives fitting more information onto sectors.

edit: And as the new quote you've added shows, that is correct.
