Why do they still release updates for Firefox and Thunderbird v3? Is there something special about them?

    2 questions......

    1) If I run Firefox v3 (latest version of v3 from Mozilla) would I have the latest security patches?

    2) Is v3 better in anything than the latest versions? Like is it more compatible with sites ?

I suspect it is more compatible with add-ons. They are still many that were never updated for 4 or newer.

Updates are made available as a concession for those still using it. There's nothing really "special" about them, just stability and security updates. So as long as you keep updating FF you have the latest security patches. But as ronjor said, they'll be discontinued soon.

In my opinion, FF 3.6.* has several advantages over newer versions but that's just me. It really depends on how you use the internet. As of right now, FF 3.6.* is very stable and I've only run into one site I had trouble with and that was because the site is designed for Internet Explorer. I don't have any sensitive information on my computer I need to keep secure so I'm not really worried about security. I use third-party antimalware software anyway. So between that and my firewall I feel pretty secure.

If you're having a lot of problems with the newer versions, take 3.6.* out for a spin and see what ya think. Otherwise, I wouldn't. :)

There will be no more updates for v3.6.x. Last one is the last.

I tried using IE after I stopped using it for 2 years but I couldn't! I just hate its interface and hate the fact that I started seeing ads everywhere!

I guess the Ad-Block Plus Addon for Firefox spoiled me as I got so used to seeing clean web pages with no adds. I tried using the Fanboy TPL List for IE but couldn't get around getting it to block the ads.

With that said, I reinstalled FF 11 :)

Pretty much my experience. One thing I really hate with IE is when you go to a site and they hijack the back button and you click it and it rolls back to the page you were trying to get away from. I have never noticed Firefox doing that.

It's a trick and it's possible to trick Firefox in doing that too.

On a side note, I always install Hotspot shield because my ISP (Etisalat in Dubai) blocks the entire internet  and with Firefox I never see the Hotspot shield ads but with IE they were all over the place + some crazy popups

    Firefox FTW
