2005. For one thing it runs lighter than 2004. But there may be other improvements.

the newer versions almost always have extra protection features.
remember to enable AutoProtect and disable the NAV Office plug-in, no matter what version you use.

Why disable the Office plug in?

If you have AutoProtect enabled, the Office plug-in serves no purpose.

    The Office plug-in:

    1. Is inefficient and affects system performance.
    2. Has an adverse impact on macros and add-ins used with Office.

The Office plug-in was added to NAV a number of years ago because particular software would not work properly if AutoProtect was enabled.

It's been several years, so I do not recall what were those products.

However, in those cases, if the Office plug-in was enabled and AutoProtect was disabled (because this was necessary to run particular products) then automatic protection was lost for non-Office files.

If all your apps run with AutoProtect enabled, then the Office plug-in serves no purpose and is just clogging your system. See whether you can run with just AutoProtect enabled.

If you find an app that will not run with AutoProtect enabled, first check to see if there is a more recent version of the app that can run with AutoProtect enabled. I suspect that there are few, if any, such apps left.

Definately the 2005 version. The 2004 was slow, buggy and not as good overall. The 2005 & 2006 versions of NAV are much improved without a doubt.

I have found te 2005 version slower than the 2004 version, but then the comparison is not ceteris paribus.

The 2004 version was the vanilla retail NAV.
My 2005 version the one with the 3 license pack, which includes stuff not in the vanilla version.

Yes, you should use version 2005. New versions have always improvements, that are not visible on the screen, like corrected bugs, that have been reported by users world-wide.

I've read all the posts, etc about Norton, and each year I look into something else when my subscription expires. I guess since it's (NIS) served me well, I keep going back. Dunno.....maybe next year I'll go ahead and try NOD32?

I have used Norton off and on for years and I am very happy with the 2005 version. It is a great improvement over the earlier versions. I am at present running NIS 2005 and very satisfied with the protection it gives
