If you get the time ... an easier solution from what you just mentioned, would be to delete all the items, restart, re-install that app, restart & retest.

But don't you feel good, being confidently in control/ empowered like that? It's nice to know there's an escape route ... and now you know it works. It somewhat takes the fear out it, but one should still always precede with caution, and always backup, backup, .... backup.

You've put the wind up me here! I had a go with RegSeeker and had a similar experience - I had to put a couple of items on the exclusion list. But with 500 items to look through that took some doing! I don't know what other problems might be lying in wait for me in the future either.

Maybe Reg cleaning is not such a good idea - though I never had problems with RegCleaner, but it doesn't find as much.

 

Have tried most regcleaners.Regvac finds more than any of the others,on my machine that is.

 

Hi to all! I bought the very same product and just uninstalled it a week ago, because it's a very intrusive program, in my opinion, you know how those are. After I uninstalled it I went in the registery to delete any traces until I couldn't find anymore. The programs that I have that list processes and start ups,still have those entries and I cannot delete them from the program, I have tried, hundreds of times. You would think after uninstalling them, deleting all traces to registry, all other files and folders, that it would not exist, but it does. I couldn't get it out of my start up. Maybe, I missed something somewhere, when I was up all night long, who knows. I put it on my daughter's laptop and it timed out the very first time I ran it, I don't know why.

I have been following all the threads on RegSeeker, and I think I'm gonna give it a try. I was very pleased with all of your advice and recommendations as well. I'm new to this forum and very happy to be a member.

I have been following all the info from you guy's and gal's about RegSeeker. I'm not at all literate when it comes to understanding Registry Cleaner programs. I have been backing off for a year and half, because I felt I didn't understand enough (and I still don't, but understand a little bit more now) about the Registry to be messing with it. I have had different Registry programs, but everytime I would run them, I would never delete anything, because I was scared to death. I new there would come a time where I had no choice. So, I trusted all of you and your advice, and downloaded RegSeeker v1.45 Beta. The first time I opened it, the only thing I couldn't figure out was, how to Delete/Remove the junk. After about ten minutes, I said to myself, this doesn't make sense, where is the Delete/Remove. Then I right clicked and found it.

I'm very impressed with the program! The speed, and accuracy. It found 533 items, and I deleted all. I ran it fourtimes. The fourth time it found zero. I was very pleased. I noticed the program doesn't show up in the program list from start menu, does anyone know why? So that means you have to execute it from Program Folders, that's what I did anyway, because it doesn't put a icon on your desktop.

The first thing I checked was to see if all my programs would open properly, after I ran RegSeeker, and everything was fine.

regsupreme is a good program,use the aggresive scan and one can safely delete all entries

another winner is regvaccine
both are shareware though

 

It's payware and it also has a LiveUpdate, for which you've to pay every year.
I've used it since the beginning when WinGuides sold it, but now it's owned by PCTools.
For now I'm sticking to the version I have and I don't think I'll upgrade.

I've been using RegSupreme Pro since some time now and never had any problems with it.
It's great value for your money.

Another one I also use is Registry Medic from IoMatic.
Also never had any problem using it or letting it clean my registry.

CCleaner & RegSeeker are great too. Using a lot of them, because I tend to install, uninstall a lot.

Glad you found the program useful. It is my current favorite. If you like this program, you might want to look at ccleaner. But don't use the program unless you are completely comfortable with it. I mainly use ccleaner to get rid of temporary files that have been left on my machine.

Yes, it is not obvious how to delete/remove. I wonder why it was designed like this. It does need a delete/remove button.

The program does not install into the start menu automatically. If you would like it to be on your start menu, all you have to do is right click on the program icon, drag it over to the Start menu on the lower left hand of your task bar, wait until the Start menu pops up and drag the item into your Start Menu (you should see a black solid bar where there program will be dropped). Give it a try, and if it doesn't work let me know. Alternatively, you can create a short cut on your desktop in the same manner.

I have a folder just for downloads in my documents, so, when I open that folder the .exe and other stuff is in there. I don't quite get it, when you say you are copying the icon or drag and drop stuff. There was never an icon for that program since I installed it, and lord know's I don't want to put the .exe on the desktop, my husband or daughter use my desktop sometimes, and one of them would screw it up and then say, I don't know who did it! Where exactly are you finding this icon for RegSeeker at? I'm curious to know what "Invert Selection" means. The program is definitely different from others I've seen, but it sure performs well.

I use CCleaner and Regcleaner (old free version)
I've also trialed RegSupreme (the best!), but I uninstalled it since the trial ran out...

I've also tried Regseeker, but it's thw worse I've used - it deleted crucial entries such as the one the GIMP (It wouldn't run, so I had to reinstall)... so I don't trust it anymore.

And of all the free tools available i'd say Regseeker is by far & away the Best i've tried ( and i too had a troubled time finding out how to delete the files ) but all that said the use-ability of it is pretty good & it's mostly Common sense

But out of curosity i haven't installed Regseeker. I just unzipped it to my desktop & where it created a folder called regseeker & in their was the .exe which I clicked on to run the regseeker program

Also can anyone advise what the fixaddremove.reg is in the folder

Oh and i use NTregopt after all has been cleaned to Compact the registry after on recomendation by Gerardwil Here

i dont like/believe in the efficiency of all the others mentioned here..except for regvaccine which i havent tried and cant comment..

imho regsupreme/jv16PT+all the free tools that i mentioned will provide thorough cleaning of your registry.if you have enough money add regvac to that combo too and it becomes the perfect solution for registry cleaning...

and the best imho is jv16 pt/its cousins like regsupreme closely followed by regseeker and regvac..

 

I only use JV16 free. Free version is still around to download. Never had a problem removing both the green and red items. And it automatically makes backups just in case you remove something you shouldn't.

After reading this thread, I thought I would give regseeker a try. I had previously been using regscrub XP and/or jv 16 power tools. I downloaded the lates beta version 1.45 build 505.

Regseeker certainly finds many more things than either of those other cleaners, but be careful, some of its detections are questionable and could break an app if you allow regseeker to remove the entry.

As one example, I have Mathcad 12 (a mathematics app), which is working fully as it should. In the registry, it puts a lot of CLSIDs in H_Key_Classes_Root\CLSID, and in the Inprocserver32 subkeys of each, it sets the default value data as just the file name that the CLSID key refers to (usually a .dll file), rather than the full path to the file (apparently the app knows that all its files are in its C:\program files\Mathcad 12 folder).

Regseeker flags these inprocserver32 entries as 'file path or file does not exist'
Deleting those keys would break Mathcad. The files, of course do exist, it's the path that regseeker misses in its scan.

So: use with caution and knowing what you are doing ;-)

Yes, thats exactly what happened to me and the GIMP and also MSN Messenger.

MSN Messenger - If delete inproc > MSN Messenger has to install each time you use it

GIMP - If delete registry with path name e.g. C:\Program Files\GIMP\gimp.exe or whatever > GIMP Doesn't work - need to reinstall

 

Ok ....... After reading all the positive feedback about RegSeeker 1.45 I had to see what it was all about. I have had other registry programs before on my PC but never had the " guts " to make that final " Click " when it came time to delete the reported findings !!

I just ran RegSeeker & it reported 1,237 results. I should add that my PC has only been up & running since October 2004. It was a brand new computer.

I was feeling pretty confident about RegSeeker until I read the last 2 posts above. However, most of the positive comments posted have been from Wilders members, who from the short time in which I have been a member here seem to be very knowledgeable & credible PC users.

As for myself ..... that IS the problem ..... being a new PC user I don't know what is safe to delete ..... as well, in no way do I download a lot of shareware. Don't trust it !!

Update: I used the leastest version of Regseeker (1.4.5) and I have no problems whatsoever. The MSN Messenger and GIMP entries are all fixed

 

HardRocker: Just use the backup function before deleting anything, you can always reverse anything that's removed You can also use Erunt (mentioned earlier in this thread) to back up the entire registry if you want to be that much more sure. The most that is likely to happen, though, is that a program won't work right.. if that happens, like I say, just restore from backup. But the Erunt backup will restore everything if you're still afraid that you might totally botch things up.
