which internet security software ?

    Hi All

    My first post here (could not find a better sub forum to ask, I found this forum link at outpost forum but no sub forum for "outpost").

    I have been using Nod32 ver. 2.7 with outpost firewall ver. 4
    Now I wish to upgrade but have read at many places that Nod32 is only good at AV and its security suite is not upto mark.

    So, any suggestion as to what route I take :
    Outpost Security Suite OR Eset Security Suite ?

    If I go for the suite, it would be cheaper !

    I would tend to go with eset but ive never used outpost suite so maybe i should :D

    In before the thread lock :D Best way Test them your self and see what you Like I did and got what I found was the best. for me!

    AntiVirus and AntiSpyWare are at the bottom of my list.

    In order:
    1. Common Sense
    2. Properly Configured Router
    3. Software FireWall with Outbound Protection
    4. Properly Configured Browser and eMail Clients (e.g.: FireFox with NoScript)
    5. Anti Virus/SpyWare

    I have not yet felt the need to implement sandboxes or return/refresh state processes. And, as I am the only user on my PC, and reasonably aware and cautious, I do run with my logon as an administrator; however, under Vista, there are some restrictions to an administrator account, even with UAC turned off.

    This thread was doomed from the start since it just didn't have enough criteria to make any kind of serious recommendation. It's in the "firewalls" section, so the focus of answers should have been on the relative effectiveness of either ESS or Outpost. However, none of the answers provided anything specific about either firewall/suite product.

    greendesert - we really don't do simple "which is the best?" type threads here. There is no single best in any software product space. "Best" can depend heavily on the requirements a particular person has, and their specific system and its configuration (as for effectiveness, performance, stability and so on).

    So, if you have specific questions about how ESS works, start a thread in the ESS forum section. If you have more questions about Outpost, you could ask them here, or, simply ask them back at the Outpost Forums.
