I don't know if I am allowed to talk about firewalls on this forum , but I wonder what firewall suits best with Nod32 V4 . And what works well for you guys? Right now I am using Outpost 2009. But maybe you guys have another suggestion. Or some experience with one that I haven't heard of yet.
Works well with Look 'N Stop and Comodo, last time I tried it. I suppose it all comes down to personal preference. If you're satisfied with OutPost, I don't see a reason to change it.
Personally I use ESS since you know the av and the firewall will work fine together.. It's also a nice light firewall which is exactly all I want since I'm behind a router firewall. edit: hmm seems this was moved forum.
According to the tests Comodo is not too good concerning network performance. Last time it was tested for network performance it made: Results for Comodo. PerfTCP: 81 PerrfUDP: 84 How can the best firewall not be close to 100% ?
Personally, and especially with firewalls, I think it comes down to which one you can enjoy navigating and making rules. Really, most any firewall can perform sufficiently in the hands of a proficient user. Take a look at this forum. You will find a different like or dislike for every firewall known to exist. Some users stick firm to what they find is best, others constantly try new ones out, always looking for something more or better. I think that if you find one that is easy on your system and plays well with all your other apps, it is a good start. But beyond that even, is how it makes sense to you. For instance, Outpost, since v1, has made more sense to me, in it's layout and GUI than any other. Comodo, for me, is the worst. Makes me crazy how illogical, to me, it is designed. Take it for what it is worth, but find one that you can manipulate easily. Try every one you can find if needed. In the end, perhaps you will be lucky enough to find what fits you best. Sul.
I am also someone who likes to try new things all the time The reason I ask mainly is that I need to renew my license and have been using EES untill now but I am thinking of maybe just changing to EAV and take a firewall. I am on trials and trying things out. EAV is cheaper and a better firewall would be usefull or maybe the EES firewall works just great. But for the people who use EAV why did u choose for that , cause you will need an extra firewall . right?
If you already have a firewall which works great, you don't need ESS, so EAV would suffice. That's one reason.
I have found only one link using google. I think you can find the same results for all the other products in the same way. The link for Comodo is: http://www.matousec.com/projects/fi...C report - Comodo Firewall Pro 3.0.22.349.pdf Though, it was the last Matousec test where tcpperf and udpperf tests were performed. Now you need to test by yourself, but I can provide the tests binaries to everybody interested. That is to say from my memory I recall that seems McAffi made 100% and 100% relatively.
I'd also recommend COMODO Firewall with Defense+, although I hear that Online Armor 3.5 RC versions are getting very good praise, as well.
I used Nod32 V2.7 + Comodo Firewall,,, Work great and smooth,,, V4 have a bug in FTP and HTTPS protocols. Use v2.7 even safer .More light.
Well, I've got curiuos on what situation we have currently and here are my results on XP SP3, fully updated. Every test was performed 3 times. Clean system PerfTCP: 28.171, 28.156, 28.162 PerfUDP: 20.406, 20.468, 20.431 Comodo, latest version, default setup, clean PC, no AV PerfTCP: 28.984, 29.046, 29.078 PerfUDP: 26.046, 26.296, 26.093 OA, latest public RC, default setup, after learning mode PerfTCP: 28.562, 28.375, 28.515 PerfUDP: 21.703, 21.678, 21.656 Comodo still lacks UDP performance, though they have improved TCP since Matousec last performance test. PS. To make the whole picture more interesting I decided to test Windows native firewall, and here is outcome Windows XP SP3 Native Windows Firewall PerfTCP: 29.515, 29.125, 29.187 PerfUDP: 21.515, 21.437, 21.390 My congrats to OA and Comodo, they both overrun native firewall in TCP performance. Though, native firewall overrun them in UDP
I always keep my HIPS products in learning mode for no less than a week. COMODO was no exception, and afterwards I put it in Clean PC Mode. The only real random notifications I received were about certain programs updating themselves, like Java and Firefox. Other than that, I didn't receive many popups, unless I downloaded something, in which case COMODO labeled it as untrusted by default. This was with learning mode after seven days, mind you. If you use Paranoid Mode right out of the box (or something similar), you probably will have popups. It's just how you configure it. And yes, you can choose to uninstall the anti-virus.
Yep, Outpost contains powerful HIPS. I'd say this Holy Trinity is the most HIPSed (if it is allowed to say) firewalls and they are very close in the HIPS tests.
