Where is F-11 stored?

I have an HP Laptop that gives me an option to press F-11 to restore Windows. Is this F-11 option stored in the MBR or somewhere else?

I need to know because I was thinking about installing TrueCrypt, but I think it will overwrite my MBR, then I am unable to restore windows by pressing F-11. Is that right?

 

It's stored in a seperate partition.

 

I just used a program called HDHacker which backs up the MBR. And within the MBR file, I can read the words:

"Press F11 for Emergency Recovery"

So it seems you are wrong! It isn't stored on a seperate partition at all.

 

I think the other poster is probably referring to where the restore data is located. Yeh the actual boot option is in the mbr but the recovery data is in a hidden partition.

 

You know what the MBR is, right? They cannot store Windows in it. It's apparent HP used the MBR for loading the backup rather than the BIOS, which is what Dell does.
