To those of you that love V9, or even V8?

I just downloaded the V9 trial and it looks unacceptable even before I execute a single backup. How do you do a backup of one or two file types scattered across multiple disks such as *.doc and *.xls when there is no "include" filter?

And how can you depend on backup software that checks file integrity without comparing it to the original?!!! Or am I missing something? A forum search turned up zero info.

    Have a great weekend. Steve

TI is a sector based backup system not a file based backup system so you cannot specify which files to back up. A full backup creates an image of all used sectors on a drive and incremental backups record changed sectors. Although you cannot specify individual files and folders to backup you can recover individual files and folders from a backup image.

TI verifies the integrity of images using checksumm.

V9 appears to offer both sector based and file based backups. No?

Apologies if I am misleading you ... I am still in the stone age with V8. I haven't tried V9 so cannot comment on it's capabilities but I just read the product description and it does say that you can backup files and folders.

Which backup programs have you used that allows backing up only .DOC files. I've used quite a few file backup programs but they all allowed only folder and filename selection. None allowed backing up by file types.

    Hi,

Take a look at Backup4all, if I am allowed to say so on this forum. It has a real good include & exclude filter. That's what I am using for the moment to backup files & folders.

:doubt: I only hope TI will have some more and better options when backing up files & folders. The day TI reaches an acceptable level and covers my needs I will use it for this too. At this moment I am just testing the possibilities for backing up files a folders. If it gets better I cerntainly will stop using other products. :doubt:

;) Don't get me wrong, TI is very good in making images (at least on my configuration), and more intuitive than other products. I never had a problem when restoring a full partition image, which I do frequently. Thats why I use TI in the first place, and will keep on doing. ;)

I know the latest version has/had a lot of problems, but I am sure they will fix them asap. The latest build solved indeed a lot of issues I kow about.

Dantz Retrospect 7 has groups of preconfigured "include" filters and also custom ones. And it compares the backup to the original file, not just backup file checksums. Two of my "must haves." But it's interface is not as clear/clean as TI's. So I was very disappointed to learn of TI's lack of "include" filters. Looks like I will be forced to use Retrospect to get the features I want. Thanks to all who wrote. Steve

Retrospect is so much slower than Acronis... I found it hard to believe when i saw it working...

    Retrospect: 25 minutes
    Acronis: 5 minutes

And Acronis has a much better GUI indeed...

    Hello all,

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

I have forwarded the request for the "include/exclude files by type" feature to our Development Team. This is a really "must have" feature for Files/Folders backup operations. It will be certainly implemented soon in the 9.0 version of Acronis True Image.

    Thank you.
