What is your security setup these days?

Settled down for a while now with AVG free,CIS FW D+ and Sandboxie.

 

One of the last missing parts in my security setup is a great router-software..

So i left emsisoft suite and went on a more modular, overlapped, overkilled setup xD

here it is realtime:
- bitdefender full security suite (tried to install only the antivirus but it went with the full package so w/e ...)
- private firewall (it does not conflict with BD firewall for now, well for now bd firewall seems quite absent and not intrusive so ill keep both of them)
- malwarebytes...well nothing to say
- superantispyware realtime too...nothing weird for now
- keyscrambler...still good soft, maybe can buggy the typing sometime but good
- spyshelter...for antykeylogging good soft few popups
- mamutu...despite i left emsisoft mamutu its still the best BB
- admuncher for plain ads chopping
- shadow defender with windows drive in shadow mode

Ondemand:
hitman pro
revo uninstaller
ccleaner
keepas
truekrypt

browser:
firefox 9.0.1 with ghostery adblock better privacy foxyproxy and lastpass
Mantra version on demand, but rarely used
Palemoon if I want pure speed, but I leave it without addons.


All this stuff on Windows Server 2008 R2 enterprise

 

That's what you want to do if you want to BSOD your machine and/or bring it to a crawl. Seriously dude, that's overlapping security right there.

well ...actually had to disable bitdefender firewall...better PFW anyway...
spyshelter and mamutu...well, they seems pretty nice, infact they have never given the same pop-ups...also because mamutu is not set into paranoid-mode, so it is lighter on popups.

 

Yeah I have to agree skudo12, it's serious overkill. Private, MBAM, spyshelter/mamutu, shadow defender and keyscambler would do you well. If you feel that you need an AV you can add a free/light AV like avast, panda, vipre.

Yeah. It is kinda heavy. Of couse some folks say that it runs fine for them.

 

Due to my new ssd I stay away from system virtualization, no more shadow defender :[

SSH-Tunnel:
I generally use the SSH-Tunnel to my dedicated server on most app's that send/receive important or personal information to prevent sniffing. Thought about using OpenVPN but I only wanted to encrypt my network traffic for certain applications instead of everything.

Router:
Fritzbox -> Untangle (Virus Blocker = ClamAV, Spyware Blocker, Phish Blocker, Firewall, Intrusion Prevention, Ad Blocker, Attack Blocker) -> PC

The Fritzbox is a normal first router. It also builds a little network which is meant for visitors/guests/friends. After that I built an Untangle-router with my old home-server (Dual Core 2 Duo 2,66Ghz, 2GB RAM). This is my main router which does all the DHCP,QoS,filtering,blocking,security... stuff.



I really recommend KeePass to everyone. You can sync it on every device via the web (dropbox,ftp,sftp,ssh,what-ever) and fully replace any password manager. To log into my ftp-server via Filezilla I just run KeePass, select the login entry in KeePass and click "open". Filezilla will start and log in with the credentials given from KeePass. Works with nearly every program.
I still wonder if it's safe to run Thunderbird the whole day with my passwords saved in the password manager (but encrypted by using the master password).

I wouldn't use it on my laptop but I would put it on my wife's laptop or the kids desktop. Its not a bad suite, its just too heavy for me. Of course I'm used to running lighter on security.

I agree with you bd suite is really heavy, plus I have removed superantispyware from realtime because that soft hits 150kMB on idle an always keep the hd busy, I will switch that to ondemand, I actually tried to install a lighter antivirus like panda but it is not compatible with windows server, maybe I will try symantec endpoint...

Windows firewall, Eset 5 av (HIPS deactiavted), MBAM Pro (active), Mamutu and Ad Muncher. Sandboxie from time to time. Windows 7 Ultimate.

Any reason why I should have Eset HIPS activated? I was afraid of a conflict between them and Mamutu and figured Mamutu was probably better anyway since Eset HIPS were new.

 

Mamutu is a BB and eset has HIPS ... i think both can be activated at the same time
