Yeh! No reviews and no participation in tests! That's only the negative point. Else it is a fantastic product. Free version does not include disabled paid version features. Very lightweight and effective! The paid version can remove rootkits.

I tried the Sophos free a/v for android. The scan never stopped running and gui would get hung up. Uninstalled after 15 minutes.

How long have you used Emsi? I am using Eset now and it is working fine but I like to try others from time to time.

One of the problems with this review is it doesn't distinguish between the features in the paid Vs free versions of the various products. Many of them are trials which revert to limited free versions when the trial expires. It's often not clear in the Google Play Store either since the option to subscribe is built into the trial and not offered as a separate pro/paid version. In particular many of the free versions don't have real time monitoring so it's rather important to figure out. Anyway, moving right along...

I've been using the new Avast 5 beta for a while and noticing stalls with the app locking feature + general slowness in my Galaxy S5. I switched to AhnLab V3 Mobile Security and the performance is much better. It has many of the same features as Avast and I may subscribe when the ten day trial is finished since it's currently <$13 US / year.

 

I'm currently test driving Comodo Mobil Security which is free and fully functional. It has been working well for a few days; no noticeable slowdowns or glitches. I haven't been able to find a good review of the real time protection though. Is anyone here using it and care to comment? TIA

 

I don't see many people here using Avira. You should give it a try, it's one of the best and works nice on my Samsung tablet and my phone.

I will use Avira if it had possibility to lock our device via SMS. Avira android security is a mature product but why they still can't provide that feature.

Would appreciate advice on whether or not install a/v software on my Android tablet
1. I only use my tablet at home
2. it is protected with a pin
3. I have around 6-7 wellknown apps installed (like Aqua Mail, K-9, Chrome, Dolphin, Total Commander) all from Google Play
(installed with default settings)
4. don't do Internet banking from my tablet

Q:
- I wonder whether I need additional software
- likely it will slow down my tablet(?)
- should I use Emsisoft or MBAM ?
(are these also checking which priviliges are okay and which ones should be disabled, such as like Advanced Permission Manager,
or XPrivacy Installer, or Permission Manager)

If you don't install apps from untrusted sources and conduct safe computing, you don't need it. Just be careful which apps you install.

Chrome, Dolphin,
Roboform for Android,
Adobe Acrobat,
Simple Notepad,
K-9,
AquaMail (registered),
Moonreader+ (registered),
Total Commander,
OneDrive, GoogleDrive.

Guess and hope there is nothing to worry about then..?
Moonreader and Adobe Acrobat are 'double' but sometimes things don't work with either one.
Same goes for Aqua Mail and K-9, I'll remove K-9 shortly.
