Careful... Lots of people found out when trying to use other imaging programs with Acronis True Image that intermingling these types of programs doesn't always turn out well.
I use Drive Snapshot because it's fastest of the traditional imaging programs (when 'always use VSS' option is enabled) that I've tried, not including rollback programs or AX64 Time Machine's incremental snapshots. also, it's super small and convenient. I trialed AX64 Time Machine and was impressed by it. The base image took 2-3 times as long as Drive Snapshot on my system, but the incremental shots were only 2 minutes each (5-6 times faster than Drive Snapshot's differential images). I may switch to it as my main backup program once it matures a little more and if I can figure out how to add DiskCryptor to it's rescue disk or if they offer AX64 plugin script that users can add to their own Win7PE disks. When I'm about to do something big like migrate to another disk though I also make an extra backup with ShadowProtect (from Win7PE rescue disk) because I trust it a lot and it's always worked well for me when I had to restore to different disk, although last time I did that it was from HDD to SSD so I used one of the specific Migrate to SDD programs for that. YMMV.
Dear pajenn, Thanks for such an excellent information on Drive Snapshot. For it's size it is a gem of imaging program. On a 64 system, do you use snapshot.exe or use snapshot64.exe? Best regards, Mohamed
I use snapshot64.exe just because, but when I was testing it against other programs several years ago there was only the 32-bit version. I also didn't notice any difference when I switched to the 64-bit version, although I haven't actually timed one against the other.
Thanks guys. I am going to purchase Macrium Reflect Professional Household 4 Pack on your recommendations. I will look at AX64 Time Machine after that. I might have to give Paragon the flick, although it has been good to me in the past.
Where did you find snapshot64.exe BTW, I think the installer only installs the 32bits version ? Thanks.
Before you buy anything, I would advise you to test the software, I think Macrium offers 30-days free license. I would also look at R-Drive Image from www.r-tt.com It is rock solid, has a small footprint, very reliable and quite easy to use. Macrium IMHO is following Acronis path and might become bloatware (which is not the case currently IMHO). The licensing policy is also too strict for me : I have a 4-licenses pack and I can only upgrade from V4 to 5 the full pack whereas only one or two upgrades are necessary, also upgraded licenses are deactivated, and considering the small rebate for upgrade, I find it hard to swallow. R-Drive Image is much more flexible in that area. They have a nice recovery media (linux based) quite efficient and which doesn't erase the USB key on which you write it, so you can keep using your USB flash key as a data transfer device.
Currently using AOMEI Backupper as an imaging software and it works really well. I really like this program and it allows me to create and restore images from the rescue disk without the actual program being installed. Also there was no need to download any further data to make it work,I have successfully restored 3 times with no issues plus it seems faster than macrium. This is a really nice program .
Macrium Reflect 4.2 for now (v5 is terrible). But if the native one in Win7 is as good as I hear I'll be using it when I change OS in a few months here.
Oh crud! I just purchased Macrium Reflect yesterday using their current 25% off special. However, I haven't installed it yet. I have to uninstall Paragon first. Should I go find the 4.2 version somewhere and register it or should I go ahead and use the most up to date version that I downloaded yesterday?
Hi Alexhousek, The serial keys for v4 are different from v5. I haven't found out yet that v4 is better than v5. I don't think v4 works very well with SSDs. Best regards, Mohamed

Well, I bit the bullet and installed V 5. So far, so good. I haven't done a image backup yet, but I will set it before I go to bed, since I'm doing a full image backup. Once I do, I'll then go and delete my old image backups from Paragon that I've saved on my external HD. BTW--it was a breeze to install and make the recovery CD/DVD.
None. I did try Macrium Reflect a while back and it was not my cup of tea. I'd rather load everything I need to my jump drive and go about it that way.
