    Hello,

I am strongly considering getting TDS.. Presently I am using PestPatrol, to which I never had a problem with, but after reading various articles and reviews I am becoming increasingly convienced that TDS is the much better and stronger program... I have a couple of questions I'd like to ask before making a final decision...

    1. What is the single most different feature your product has over the competition? I assume it is the 16 ways it can find a trojan..

    2. Is their an owner's manual I can download and print?

    3. I downloaded the trial. How can I update it? Your instructions were a little hard to follow. Could you tell me, step by step..

    4. Are their any known conflicts between TDS and NOD? Or TDS and Zone Alarm Pro? Or Sygate Pro 5...?

    5. Is there any incentive to buying TDS from a competitor? IE; Competitive upgrade?

    That's all ..
    Thanks

    Hi Straight Shooter,
    Yes :)
    TDS-3 comes with a very big Help-file.
If you wish, you can ofcourse print it out (be sure you have enough paper and ink ;))
    To download definitions:
    Go to:
    http://tds.diamondcs.com.au/
    Go to the download section
    There you will see this:

Unregistered users - Latest Radius Database - updated daily. Download this file to the TDS folder overwriting the older file. Close and restart TDS for changes to take effect.

Immediately beneath that you will see the link which will get you the latest definitions.

No, not that I know of.
I'm not sure what you mean with that, sorry (you know, my English....)

    Hi Straight Shooter,
PP is quite a different program, trying to fill the gap to detect pests which are not specific trojans, worms, viruses, intruders, but it might be text files, spyware, and several of the other classes. So yourself, a parent or a sytem administrator can find such pests on users systems.
So it's hard to really compare the programs, as TDS and WormGuard work in a very different way and concentrate on worms and trojans, in which they are specialists.
A little tip: with TDS-4 and WG-4 around the corner, would wait with printing the helpfile of TDS-3 which is an over 300 pages manual printed. There is no reason if you decide to keep TDS-3 and maybe WG-3 to wait with registering those, as it's DCS policy to upgrade for free to the next version.
Play around with TDS and use Jan's basic configuration, see what it does for you, etc.
As you might have read somewhere else in the forum, i use for instance the TDS > Network > TCP Port Listen on port #137 to have not those annoying UDP 137 port knocks all time nor miles long log files from my firewall about them, as my ISP is not blocking them. I should try closing that to see if it is solved in the meantime :)

Looking forward to your next experiences!

  5. If I already own another anti trojan, will your company sell me TDS cheaper than $49.00 because I may be giving up a competitir's product? It's done all the time...

    Hi there Straight Shooter,
We offer the same price to everyone, as that is what is fair. We do not make exceptions as that would hardly be fair on existing customers who've paid the full price, and remember the only way we put bread on our table at the end of the day is from registrations from our three shareware programs - everything else we offer is free, including daily updates (we're still the only anti-trojan company who does that, one main reason is because it's expensive). The URL that Pieter mentioned is in regards to a substantial discount regarding TDS/Wormguard/Port Explorer, but this is a discount we offer to all users equally.

I'm not so sure about 'it happens all the time' - I don't think you'll have much luck buying a Ferrari at discounted price simply because you drive an inferior car ... (if you have any luck, let me know ... :))

    Best regards,
    Wayne

Well, I'm getting close to making a purchasing decision (your $99.00 Special...)

May I ask, I heard TDS doesn't have a memoryscanner, that is, one has to keep the program always on? Doesn't that affect system memory? (I have Athlon XP Home, 512 K Ram..) and is there a way to keep the proggie always on at start up without manually openning (what is the preferred way)...

As to the Competitive Upgrade issue, check out Agnitum's site. They give you a 50% discount if you are buying Outpost Pro, and used to be a registered user of another firewall.. Please don't act amazed about this; it's a very common practice..

    Thanks.

Memory scan is done, i think you mix the exec protection, which can be installed in the regisered version and to have that hook functioning indeed TDS needs to be running; hardly noticable resources on that part, for most systems.
Since you were studying the helpfile anyway you might have come across this function: checking any executable for nasties and block them from running if anything bad is found.

You had PP which i would keep as an extra for the spyware detection and the other reasons why and as long as you are happy with it. The don't bite each other.
You'll see once digging any deeper into TDS you can hardly compare the two.
Somewhere in the threads here Wayne has described in a few words about some more TDS products in the build, with which you will be very happy i suppose.

  10. :)Okay, I'm buying the whole shebang! $99 bucks! I look at it this way...
    1. Most Security Experts I read from in this and other forums ALL use TDS...

    2. I downloaded the evaulation version of Wormguard and I see the value behind it.. NOD32 is missing this, but that's okay...

    3. It's a great deal...

    4. It'll give me re-assurance and I'll be able to sleep at nights..

    5. I tried Spybot S&D and it found spyware and registry keys PestPatrol didn't.. In no way am I knocking the product, I am just
saying what I notice. I didn't notice what the spyware was enough to write them down..

    6. I am a paranoid security freak...(Just kidding...)

So, here goes.. I'm now your customer!

    straight shooter:

Using TDS over Pest Patrol would be like using a fire hose against a fire rather than a water pistol.

Pest Patrol is fine for what it does [PESTS in general]
TDS is EXCELLENT for what it does [TROJANS in SPECIFIC]

You can have it running automatically at start-up, but personally I absolutely minimise my start-up to bare essential, then start TDS manually.

The only thing I have on at start-up is the Firewall, Anti-Virus, and my System Tray TXClock plus the bare system processes.

TDS, upon manual start-up, I have configured to run checks, Memory Scan, File Testing, etc. etc.

Look at above Posts by FanJ to get the best configuration from the word go. [I wish I had had that back when I got TDS, saved me an awful lot of trial and error].

I can promise you this Shooter, you WILL NOT REGRET IT.

ESPECIALLY FOR THE $99 PACKAGE VALUE, DANGNABIT!!!!! :D

EDIT: Yes, I just saw your post re SpybotS&D as well, I had told Jooske previously I loved Pest Patrol, then I found Spybot and it's in a class of its own again, agree with you on that. I no longer bother with Pest Patrol [uninstalled] and use Spybot, especially its deep history cleaning.

    My lists of system defences.

TDS AT; Wormguard AW; PC-Cillin 2003 [got a FREE upgrade, and it looks very good]; Kerio Personal Firewall; SpybotS&D; System Mechanic; AdSubtract Pro; jv16 Power Tools Registery, etc. Cleaner [now that's an awesome tool]; Sam Spade; SuperScan; and InternetSweeper [getting rid of Index.dat files, etc.
Am going to purchase Port Explorer by new year from DiamondCS as a chrissy present to oneself.

  12. Thanks for the info and encouragement, Tassie.. After one spends $99., all the encouragement in the world is only welcomed! :p

I still didn't get my registration email.. I just paid for the whole shebang oh, I'd say, 3 hours ago.. I hope I get the email by tonight...

Noticed your configuration.. My is as follows...

    1. Nod32
2 ZAPRO 3.5 (No longer a memeory hogger!)
    3. System Cleaner and Evidence Washer (www.allera.com)
    4. RegVac (www.superwin.com)
    5. And now, of course, SpyBot
    6. TDS-4
    7. Wormguard (I used to use Script Sentry)
    8. Port Explorer....
    9. Acronis True Image

Wow.. We both have a lot of stuff!
Well, I can't wait to get the TDS stuff! I won't be able to sleep tonight!

    What can I say StraightShooter....except

WELCOME TO TDS LAND ~ THE LAND OF ANTI-TROJANS

DiamondCS operate during business hours Mon to Fri re purchasing, but since it's 1.40p.m. here in eastern states, they will be around 11.40a.m. [approx. 2 hours behind] I am sure you will get the 'key' soon.

Nothing to do now but wait, then once key is in place and 'Execution Protection' installed in TDS you are laughing.:):)

In another forum I have a little slogan in my sig:

RATS are like mice once TDS gets thru with them! :)

    Attached Files:

  14. I'm laughing!

Actually, I got the necessary emails and installed everything without a hitch, about an hour after I sent my previous post. Just completed my first full system scan (Wow, this is a deep piece of software...) No Trojjies...

I am going to have a lot of fun playing with this ! But, seriously, this is a pretty complex proggie and I just have to roll up my sleeves and learn it.. It seems VERY through.. though... I can't imagine I could ever get a trojan now with this baby in my computer!

Thanks for your well wishes! Wormguard looks very nice, too.. I already tested it with a script and it worked flawlessly...!

Straight Shooter, we're happy to hear that everything installed ok! And we hope you now have a new sense of anti-trojan confidence, knowing that you're now in control of the only anti-trojan system that has databases updated daily Mon-Fri and the only anti-trojan system that uses unique, exclusive techniques for detecting trojans (as opposed to just normal file scanning).

TDS may seem initially complex, but it's only as complex as what you do with it -- scanning your system for trojans is as simple as pressing two menu items - just a couple of mouseclicks. Or you can dive into the deep end and start using the more advanced functions -- everything is documented in the helpfile (just press F1). It's up to you how much you make it work! :)

    Best regards,
    Wayne

Hi Straight Shooter, we welcomed you as a user and now once again as a registered operator to the DCS family! Congratulations with probably the best buy you made in your life for computer security.
Little word of correction: You wrote to have TDS-4 loaded, which none of us has as yet, it is in the build just round the corner to be finished for beta testing i guess, so soon that will be there.
Hope to be able soon to welcome you in the DCS private forum too.

My own experiences with TDS are written in both forums, getting rid of intrusions, not too many trojans caused of security education not to get them in the first place or if so (emails for instance) knowing how to deal with them, or WormGuard stopped them in their traces and i could easily remove them in time, in doubt could submit them to the TDS lab without danger.
The speech part in TDS opened a whole new world for me, caused me to learn a lot in that area, which is part of the msagents, from there to some basics of fun scripts (you find one in your "user submitted scripts" folder in TDS) etc etc etc.
Lot to discover! Unnecessary to say TDS is central on my system, possibilities only limited by imagination and knowledge how to do it.
    Rests to say: enjoy!

DiamondCS makes computer security a joy in life!

Be good, give your computer real security as christmas present!

Be better, give your computer the whole action packet immediately!

Great to hear all is well straight shooter. Welcome aboard. Now, make sure you visit the TDS private Forums OK.

    http://xxxxxxxxxx/forum/xxxxxxx
(edited: we're not supposed to post the private forum in the open; members know or can IM/PM us in case they lost it)

It's for Licensed TDS operators only. Just have to log in with username and password [maybe have to register first with info you got from DiamondCS and they assign a temporary password, which you can change later, OK]

Hope to see you there. :)

Straight Shooter.I see that you purchased TDS-3!I think that's a wise investment.I haven't had TDS-3 for long, but I really enjoy the program! It's an amazing program isn't it?I haven't seen anything like it!I know from experience that the DiamondCS support people and the experienced users are very helpful.I trialled TDS-3 and decided fairly quickly that I had to have it!You hear so much about it and then when you actually run the program,it practically sells itself!Have fun!

  19. First, I'd like to thank Tassie, Jooske, The Tester, Wayne, and the others for welcoming me aboard!

Secondly, like you, It didn't take me long to decide after trialing it that I was going to buy it! I trialed it for less than a day! Well written, very logical interface, and the daily updates are certainly a reasurrance !! It looks like a heck of a powerful prograam, and need the best! So, here I am..

Thirdly, I am going to get into the private forum over the weekend. I'm pretty good (I think) with figuring things out for myself, so I'll sit down over the weekend and configure TDS according to the configuration post here at Wilders, plus visit the private users forum and see what I find there. but first, my girlfriend is nagging me to death to go XMAS shopping, so off I go!!

Seriously, from a simple inquiry on TDS, this bacame a 2 page posting! Thanks to everyone! I can see support is NOT a complaint at DiamondCS!

I already have 2 configuration questions. nothing serious, but I'll go see if I can find the answer over at the private forum, and if not, I'll start a new thread either there or here at Wilders.. Over the weekend...

    Thanks Again!

TDS can be really nice and part of our new life, for sure, we have Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and TDS. And the forums about it.
But there is life around it too, without is unthinkable like air and water, it's just in our necessary equipment, TDS, WG, PE, belongs to it.
We did create some scripts like a birthdaysong, jukebox, a cokemachine, inspired to fantasies about to have our whole house remotecontrolled via WAP if necessary and have our local store called for deliveries, a christmastree was not in the build yet. In the private forum you find it in the older threads about the SS3 scripting, indeed.
TDS is only limited by our imagination and knowledge of using it including the scripting.
Off to your christmas shopping before you forget all about it! :p

It's funny Jooske, but if I have a system reboot and once it's back up, and I am dialling back into the net, I cannot wait for it to finish as I start TDS [confg to manual start] as soon as I can. I feel "naked" without it running.

Each time I sit down at computer, the very FIRST thing I do is look at the SysTray to see the 4 familiar icons. TDS, AV, Firewall, and Connection Icons.

Bit like not wearing seat belts in my car. Does not feel 'right' [it's LAW here to wear them anyway, maybe it 'should be law' to install TDS lol] :D

After reboot, manually start TDS, wait till all upstart scanning is done, open the network > TCP Port listen on port 137 to avoid all those UDP 137 portscans and logs for those and keeping my system really nice and as smooth as possible, (really should try without that to see if it's quiet on that now) only then i reconnect to internet and in the meantime start also manually PE and some more programs like a browser and email etc.
Firstly always visit this or the private forum for the latest news, so could use the miniscript i posted in the private forum the other day to open the browser via TDS to the right forum immediately.

LAW here too, think worldwide. As TDS keeps you in the drivers seat, yes, should be law to drive internet with your TDS license and active.
Hmmm was thinking about a stupid christmas script, but this subject seems more urgent :D
