Vipre Antivirus

I've gave him a choice of AIS,KAV,KIS or Avira Premium.He picked Vipre and put it on a new desktop as well,go figure.

 

The observant will have have noticed that I have been running Vipre since forever...Go figure!

P.S. I have licenses for Vipre Premium, too!

 

I am using vipre for quite some time..Really impressive and I dont regret a minute about purchasing this software.. The handling of unknown programs when selected to prompt user acts like a small HIPS component..which really helps incase the signatures fail to catch any zero day..

 

Using Vipre again. Its pretty easy to get support on their forums and they are always willing to assist in removing malware if it can't be deleted by the product.

 

yup, malware removal service is part of the subscription to vipre. sunbelt/gfi really stands behind their products. easily the best software support (home user & enterprise-grade) i've ever experienced.

vipre didnt perform very well in av-test but i hope it will continue to improve

Dont know why it hasnt been noticed but from what I have seen, Vipre may have some of the best detection going.

Check at the flash tests at Malware Research Group and it is doing as well as Prevx. Only 4 passed this last zero day keylogger test and Vipre is one.

On the Financial and PPI PUA detection results, it was 1 of 4 that detected the highest at 5.

I had not been paying attention of late to it but it has really blown me away from where it once was and where it is now.

Vipre is doing really great. They have removed the update bug too... a lot of optimizations have been done on system performance. But it still do not have password protection/Captcha Protection. So I dam afraid if malware can easily shut it down.

 

I read that v5 would be released later this year. Is there any estimate on around when that would be?(Q3, Q4 etc) Or is there perhaps an estimate for the beta test?

 

i've noticed something with viper, if u do a system scan viper will expand all the processes and scan them, which all anti viruses usually do.. but viper fails to close the expanded applications. for example: before scan your 'svchost' is using 25MB after a system scan with viper, it'll show 50+ MB. but if u do a system restart then everything is back to normal.

 

svchost is exactly what it sounds like: a process that hosts system services. if you want to identify specifically *WHICH* system process is using more memory, then use process explorer or something. if you're using windows vista or windows 7, it's likely superfetch running under a svchost.

in the grand scheme of system resources, does 25MB really matter? memory not used is memory wasted. especially in the context of modern (vista/w7) windows versions.

 

Anyone ever run into the issue where right clicking doesn't work with Vipre? If I right click to open another tab or save something with my mouse nothing happens. Without Vipre then presto everything works fine. This is the only issue I have run up against...

 

My right click works fine. Sounds very strange though, especially if it is just a Vipre issue?? Did you check their forum to see if this is something previously reported?

This sounds like an issue with the shell extension which is related to the Scan with VIPRE option on the right click menu. Most likely there is a registry permission problem related to that specific component. I'd suggest contacting our Support directly so we can look into this for you. I'd also expect to see some helpful information in the Event Viewer regarding this if you want to try looking into this yourself.

 

I sent support a ticket just a bit ago. Thanks for popping in, if we get this fixed a license is a probable thing...

 

Trialing VIPRE and liking it. I think I'll buy.

 

The premium version has fw and hips component

me too. now i am rather drifted to use simple conventional Av than Complete security packages

 

But the Premium version, although more costly, is as light as the standalone AV and is the version coming out top so far in the MRG Flash Tests. I would be surprised if the AV by itself would do as well.

 

Hips? I'll steer clear.

 

But the HIPS is turned off by default in the Premium version (not sure about that), and MRG tests the softwares with default settings.

I don't understand much about software, but I think VIPRE Antivirus has one of the most promising AV engine today.
