Using a Private Proxy server ?

Hi. I wanted to change my IP address so I read that private proxy servers is one method to do so. I signed up with Megaproxy - it's a nightmare. Most of the websites won't even load.
So I am hoping someone here has some real world experience with a private proxy server service to let me know which is the best one to go with. Also - is it unrealistic to have a proxy server service where surfing is just like not having one? That's ideally what I'd like to have - totally un-noticeable!!! Thank you.

Hi - I found the easier way to change IP's. If you use a router - change the mac address through the router interface online & restart your modem & router. Voila - new IP addy. No need for these lousy proxy servers. NO further action required - hope this helps someone. D

 

The best way to "change" your IP, yet experience almost no website loading problems, is to pay for VPN service. Your IP (with your method) is still tied to you through ISP billing records, so I wouldn't do anything where finding out who you are would be a problem. Since you got a new IP with your method, I obviously can't say it didn't work...but I was always under the impression that the DHCP assignment from your provider, was based on the MAC address of the cable modem. Some providers hand out the same IP no matter what...I guess some don't though, from your experience on the matter.

All your previous IPs are logged with your ISP. If you are doing this hoping a new IP is a clean slate you are incorrect, all your past IP assigned to your account are still linked to your name and account information.

Are you serious...or trolling? There is no way for any of us regular users to know what your IP was. But the Administrators here could post a log of every IP you posted from since you joined, if they wanted. If you did nothing but your 'Router MAC Trick', your real world identity could be found out easily with the proper legal paperwork submitted to your ISP. Nobody here can do that, but the MPAA, RIAA, or Law Enforcement could ID you in a heart beat if all you are doing is your 'Router MAC Trick'. If you are not *properly* using a VPN, Tor, I2P (and maybe a regular old SSL proxy, but I don't study up on those, so who knows)...you are findable by the legal process.
