I threw this one on the testing block for the past few days and initially it seemed to be doing quite well. The definitions versus malware >48 hours old are very good. I initially thought that the zero-day portion was also good; sadly the performance was more a function of the lack of true ZD malware coming on line recently.

This morning I harvested some truly new nasties and Twister didn't perform so well. Was very surprised that it was defeated by new variants of Security Center,XP Antivirus 2012 and Zeus.

Pity.

 

Have you tried the maximum proactive settings and executed those malwares? For an experienced user that is not a problem and malwares detected through HIPS are automatically uploaded to the cloud so that anything benign gets restored in next definition update.

 

I ran it at default. I did a some point try to enable the more restrictive settings, but as I guess you know the warning about "enabling these settings will lead to an excess of false positives" (or some such wording) popped up. As they obviously weren't suggesting anyone use Max settings, I tested at stock.



Addendum: I just went back in and set Twister to max. What an annoying experience popup-wise that was! It also refused to let me install Seamonkey 2.7 beta browser (the original exe of which it deleted when I attempted to download a file).

I stand by a simple rule- an AM program that detects everything detects nothing.

 

There are many differences between default and high sensitive mode - in high sensitive we have
- enabled "Monitor Registry run key"
- enabled "Registry Prot hi-detect suspicious"
- enabled extended virus definition
- enabled "Detect packed files"
- enabled virus infection defense
- enabled "Block infection behaviour"
- enabled "Virus Immunity System"
- enabled "Auto immunize file"
- enabled "Deny access to damaged immunized file"
- and "max scan depth" is 10 whilst in default mode is only 3
All those features "eat" more resources of system and can make working less comfortable. But I think even on upper levels we can make it easier:
- one should to exclude some important and trusted apps from realtime scanning in "Extended Options" tab
- one should to exclude some important and trusted apps in "FDDS Trust Editor"
- fix lower "Max scan depth"...maybe 2-3 is enough?

 

@ichito: Twister has lots of customizations and you would have love to play around it... I am saying this because I can see your name in the winners list..
