Using demo 2323, last night I ran a file-based backup of all drives.

I was amazed to see that TI actually used ALL the available memory and then still asked for more virtual memory. System has 768MB of memory.

Is this a function of the priority I assigned to TI?

I've never seen any other progran grab all remaining memory.
    Is this a memory leak?

When I did an image based backup with TI, I do not recall memory use getting higher than about 500MB.

With file based back up, memory used was over 900MB, maybe even over 1000MB during the verify. Pagefile use was about 260MB at some point.

    Hello Howard Kaikow,

Thank you for your interest in Acronis Disk Backup Software.

We do apologize for the delayed response.

Could you please clarify what Backup priority you have set up during an image creation?

Please be aware that the priority of any process, running in a system, determines the amount of CPU usage and system resources allocated to that process. Decreasing the backup priority will free more resources for other CPU tasks. Increasing of backup priority may speed up the backup process due to taking resources from the other currently running processes. The effect will depend on total CPU usage and other factors.

If you set up Normal Backup priority and the problem still persists, please create Acronis Report and Windows System Information as it is described in Acronis Help Post.

Please create an account, then log in and submit a request for technical support. Attach all the collected files and information to your request along with the step-by-step description of the actions taken before the problem appears and the link to this thread. We will investigate the problem and try to provide you with the solution.

    Thank you.

I do not recall what priority I chose, and I have since uninstalled the demo 2323.

In any case, it is bad design to gobble all memory. Setting highest priority in no way should lock the user out of doing other things, just affect performance.
