Question: I activated Static NAT on my Westell 6100 modem[/router?]. Now I'm seeing 938745983745 high alert logs on my ZoneAlarm Pro 6.1. Before I wasn't getting anything. Should I keep Static NAT activated to this computer? Or should I turn it off. I'm just curious as to which would be safer.

And what exactly does static NAT do? And how does NAT in general work? Sorry about all the questions. I just want to start understanding all of this. Thanx all.

As Arup already mentioned, unless you are running servers you do not want to bypass the NAT capability of your router and expose your system to the Internet. It is safer to leave this disabled and not forward any ports/services unless they are really required.

Thanks all. I have turned it off, and I believe all is fine again. It just feels weird not to get anything hitting my firewall.
