Note on Spy Emergency 2005: Spy Emergency was listed on this page because of concerns with false positives and the nature of its detections. It was on the rogue list and was later removed from the rogue list for the reasons listed above. I still wouldn't touch anything that had ever been listed, myself, but then perhaps I'm a cynic. According to Eric Howes, they've resolved their issues and I certainly would not doubt him. Obviously that's no guarantee of future behavior on their part, so I'll stick with the "tried and trues" myself.

 

Interesting policy you have there Detox. Most new application's could end up on that list as it's only when they circulate into the public masses that the FP's are noticed. I remember when Spy Sweeper first came out. It produced half a dozen FP's. It could have ended up on Eric's list because of it. Luckily for Webroot, I don't think the rogue's list existed when Spy Sweeper was released. It's how the vendor respond that's important. If it continue's to produce FP's then ok it's a bad 'un. But if they address them and the application shows an marked improvement then i believe they should be given the benefit of the doubt. Otherwise known as a 'second chance'.

I also think Howe's words "ridiculous FPs" means more than a half-dozen... or at least some that really never should have appeared.

Your example is a good one, but I would (personally) never install anything by Webroot either. I remember the many difficulties posted here earlier and the extremely slow responses from Webroot.

Maybe I'm opinionated, but we all get to see how we want in the end

WebRoot , .... SLOW ? How about NON_EXISTANT ! Their customer support is as bad as it gets . I will try this new one out though . See how it goes .
