What is the significance to the asterisks that appear in the window where all Registry Rules are listed?

Some Keys end with a single asterisk whereas some others end with two asterisks.

The helpfile is the best place to look for a description of wildcards, but to give an example:-

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\*controlset*\Services\*

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\*controlset*\Services**

The fisrt rule above is from the default list and will protect only those keys on the level immediately below Services in Regedit - but it will protect all such sub-keys on that level.

The second example is from the Kent/RegRun list and will protect all keys below or on the same level as Services, irrespective of the level they are on; it is therefore more comprehensive in coverage.

*controlset* means the rule will cover all keys in that position that have the word 'controlset' in them, even if they have additional characters to the left or right of the word.

I hope that does not sound too confusing!
