    babac has been kind enough to post on quite a few occasions (here, here and here just for starters) a solution for a post command .bat file to get Vista/XP to shut down after a backup+validation is complete.

    This solution got round a bug that meant that TI would shutdown after the backup with a post command, but before the validation started.

    After a search it seems that this bug has been around for TI9 onwards with more than a few posts from Support along the lines of "This is the known issue that the post commands are being run before the validation. Our development team is working with his discrepancy. This will be fixed in one of the next build." etc, etc.

    So since v2009 (for the first time in "What's new to v2009") allows a task to automatically shutdown after backup or restoration .......... has anyone found this bug to be fixed?

    If it is, I won't need to get the calculator out to work out the number of seconds for each sweet-darling .bat file.:rolleyes:

    Thanks for your time. And thanks to babac for his solution.

    In build 9,646, the Shutdown the computer after completion option seems to only be available on the actual running/processing task screen (unless I missed it somewhere). Checking it doesn't trigger the shutdown until after the Validation has run. Then a 30 second countdown begins so you can cancel it if you want.

    You also need to check the Shutdown the computer after completion box every time. TI doesn't remember it.

    In Vista, if you use the Windows shutdown command as a post-command option ("shutdown /s /t 30", for example), the shutdown is triggered after the Validation has completed. I didn't test it in XP.

    Also, in Vista, the Windows shutdown command has a 10 minute limit. This shouldn't be a problem, though, since it doesn't start until after the Validation.

    Thanks MudCrab. Yes, it's great to see this in a running task and that it will only shutdown after validation. As you, I don't find it elsewhere other than the pre / post commands when setting up a task.

    It's the pre / post commands that seem to involve this bug I've read about, as well as what I'd like to use since my choice to shutdown isn't remembered for all instances of the task. If I can keep my options to TI, then this is the ideal.

    Since this there is this new option in a running task I'm curious if the bug has been cleaned up ..... but I guess my answer is in trying it out myself :oops:

    I didn't know about the 10 minute limit for the .bat command - that's good to know.

    Thanks.

    The post-command shutdown worked in my test. The shutdown didn't get triggered until after the Validation had completed. I created a task with the option and then ran it. I assume it would be the same when started by the scheduler, but with TI, it would be best to try it.

    The 10 minute limit is in regards to the maximum number of seconds Vista's shutdown command will allow (600). I don't think XP had this limit.
    Code:
    C:\Windows\system32>shutdown /?
    Usage: shutdown [/i | /l | /s | /r | /g | /a | /p | /h | /e] [/f]
        [/m \\computer][/t xxx][/d [p|u:]xx:yy [/c "comment"]]
        /s         Shutdown the computer.
        /t xxx Set the time-out period before shutdown to xxx seconds.
                   The valid range is 0-600, with a default of 30.

    MudCrab and anyone interested,

    The post command without the .bat file works just fine in v2009. See my post here.

    Hello all,

    Thank you for your interesting in Acronis True Image

    Here is step-by-step instruction how to use the Pre/Post commands option of Acronis True Image Home 2009 to automatically shutdown computer after backup:

    * Run the Schedule Task wizard;
    * At the Backup Options step choose Pre/Post commands;
    * Choose the Use Custom Commands;
    * Hit the Edit button next to the After the backup process field;
    * Put in the Post command as specified below:

    Command: shutdown
    Working directory: C:\Windows\System32\
    Arguments: -s

    This command will automatically shut down the computer after the completion of backup process.
    Best regards,
