Since its inception here, we have now seen 17 upgrades or new releases to the orginal product. All of this sine August 2007. Hats off to you Tony on continuing to make such a great and solid product.:thumb:

Yes. And add to it that SD is a true achievement when we're thinking of effectiveness 'n' simplicity as a software!

Does anyone know if SD works with LUA?

I can confirm that the latest version of ShadowDefender; 1.1.0.275, works under LUA. However, one needs SuRun to make it work under LUA.

Good to hear. You should find it extremely simple to run/use. I just right-click and 'commit' anything I want to keep (rather than excluding any folders from 'Shadow Mode').

The reality is, FD-ISR was among the elite for software and what it accomplished. With it gone, for some;) , ShadowDefender is the one most important piece of software you can own now.

Can't agree more! And those two can also work beautifully together (but you have to keep their actual states in mind or you'll be running for some mixing headakes) or, probably better, as complement tools... With using them both, I seldom feel the need to make/use my monthly ShadowProtect backups.

well if someone doesn't say something negative pretty soon this thread might simply die. Try to take SD away from me and violence will result. Try and take FD-ISR away and I will have to find it first, blow of the dust and you can take it with my blessing - one of the most overrated pieces of software I have ever known. Far better to have multiple machines hooked up to one screen/keyboard/mouse. I sorry that they pulled the plug on FD-ISR but only because it's death gave it an undeserved nostalgic status. SD on the other hand is almost perfect. I say almost because I would like to see a one click solution to allow - go into shadow mode but normal following re-boot. Being lazy I object to having to click the mouse 6 times.

Not true. What would happen if your harddrive died? What then? How would ShadowDefender help you then? The most important kind of software than anyone could ever own is an imaging program, with images off the drive.

Well, not really a negative but an incompatibility. I have been trialing SD and was planning to purchase it. I had also been waiting for Online Armor V3 but the two are not compatible. SD works great without OA installed and OA works great without SD but I can't even boot the system with both installed.

I have been giving Shadow Defender a run for the last 24 hours and so far impressions are very good.

Returnil seemed to bog down my system after a few hours and a re-boot was needed.
Whether this was due to a program conflict or just the way the free version of returnil works on my system i dont know.

The exclusion list is also handy as my son sometimes forgets to save his schoolwork to the external drive when using returnil, and saved them to his documents folder so Shadow Defender will help to save confusion for him between using the home computer and the way they are taught to save documents at school.

If and when a save can be implemented across re-boots then Shadow Defender will be almost perfect.

I do fear for the future of these products though as Commodo DiskShield seems to be progressing nicely.

yes true. What if lightning hits your house where your imaging prpgram is housed, what then. Or if Superman cant stop that asteroid that is heading to your town. So, what then. I totally agree with you but even your method has flaws to. So I still stand by my statement.

You mean you still say that ShadowDefender is better than Drive Snapshot or Shadow Protect? The cool thing about those programs is that the images can be stored anywhere; in-house or at remote a remote location. I have an active DS image partition (w/UBCD) on a DVD. So, even if my system does get struck by lightning I'll be okay. But, to be on the extreme safe side, you could store images via FTP. Can the same be said for any virtualization software? No.

My point here is not to get into an argument. That solves nothing and educated no one. Be very careful what programs you use and even more careful with those you trust. I use, and love, Sandboxie. However, any virtualization software should not be used as the ultimate safety net.

I understand but, the reality of that actually happening to 99.99 percent of us is zero. But point taken.

Not realizing that Highlander rules applied ( there will be only one) I use both SD and Shadow Protect on a daily basis. If I really had to choose then it would have to be SP but as I don't have to choose I simply use both.

That has to be an issue with your setup. All versions of OA and SD play just fine here.

Is it normal for Shadow Defender to try to access the screen directly and should this be allowed as permanent rule in firewall or can be denied?

What if is denied. Will it function normally?

I know that many software does the same thing such as MBAM, SAS etc., so i guess that should not be concern ?!?!?!?

BTW Great product we have here and we can use it with satisfaction.

Don't think it would be a concern. I would allow it full access. :)
