    I am seeking a copy of the Threatfire version BEFORE they added the antivirus signatures. I think the version just before they added this bloat was TF 3.0. PLEASE correct me if I am wrong.

    Does anybody have an older version of TF of which they will let me have a copy?

    Greetings subset.

    Wow! What a great find Chip Download is! I have bookmarked that site for future reference.

    OK - here is an even bigger challange. :)

    I'm running Win98se, so no version of Threatfire works on this box. However, I believe its older brother Cyberhak does work on Win98.

    I have "googled" in vain to try to find a download for Cyberhawk.

    Do you have any idea where I could find this. So far I've found plenty of links but none of them actually have the download - most take me to the PC Tools Threatfire site.

    Any help o_O

    Dr. Mac

    Got it!! Thanks for a grrrreat website!

    @vijayind Thanks. I did a Google & tried links for nearly an hour. I didn't fine subset's link, but I did find the same Canada link that you found. The Canada link, however, downloads from PCTools -- the latest version -- even though they did not update the version number on their site. Thus, as of now, the Canada link downloads 3.5.0.21.

    @All I got a PM that told me that the AV database of the current version of TF can be deleted. And so can the blacklist. I wonder how TF will react when it tries to look-up something after those databases are deleted? Does anyone care to test it (I am not running TF at the moment)? Will it crash or....?

    NOTE- I dropped TF after it got bought by the Borg, and I switched to Mamutu -- a behavior blocker from A-squared (EMSIsoft). Mamutu is excellent! Fast. Light. Stable. Well-supported. But I kind of miss TF's capability for user to set advanced rules.

    @AigleI request you to do a head-to-head test of TF versus Mamutu. PLEASE!

    Thanks & yes, the version 30.12 bellgamin referred to. Darn him! Just when i was getting comfortable with CyberHawk he pulls a rabbit out the hat. :cool:

    I'll give it a go and see how it stacks up to old CyberHawk, and i agree, i prefer the version that omitts the AV intergrated in it and with working custom rules. SIZE 14.9mB

    Excellent post Bellgamin!

    Thanks much.

    BTW, the download link is amazingly long and convoluted:

    h**p://dlz.download.chip.eu/exec/r2r.pl?m=dlz;u=http%3A%2F%2Fdl03.chip.eu%2Fdownload%2F0e96d4b928fab83da68d8f54f1439634%2F48c80a33%2F60816%2Ftfinstall_en.exe;ct=1;thc=1;b=60816;c=1777886;tit=Beitrag+60816+IT;url=http%3A%2F%2Fdownload.chip.eu%2Fit%2Fdownload_getfile_it_3003741.html;sep=%7C;tid=128;tp=9%7C47;tc=005007000;tn=Antiviren-Tools;tpn=download+eu%7CSicherheit+%26+Hilfe;content_type=egc;cs=1

    ALERT!!! Once you install an older version of TF, be SURE to turn off Auto Update. If you do not, then auto update will soon install the latest (bloated) version of TF.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    No need to be sorry. It is the Canada link's fault for displaying erroneous & misleading information as to the TF version they are providing.
    I have only one issue with TF old version, in fact the same i had all along. IMHO they should not just use QUARANTINE but make provision for a simple DENY & TERMINATE feature like all HIPS use.
    Maybe because of the annoyance of testing when you have to take time to enter settings again and choose RESTORE. Same could apply if it was a false positive.
    Otherwise, TF old version seems suitable enough as is.
    Just to add, it's a toss up for me right now, and thanks for the lead to the old TF version. In old CyberHawk you can choose DENY, and case closed.
    In TF, if it quarantines something you didn't want quarantined or a FP, it makes provision to return it, but IMO a simple DENY is more to my own liking.
    Now if TF had a DENY + QUARANTINE feature as well as a DENY only, i think that would have gone over so much more better.
    i agree 100%plus if you feel what you denny is a good program you could allow it later but with quarantined you have to restore it.
    The latest versions are allways the best. Cyberhawk is now ThreatFire in version 3.5.0.21.
    Maybe. I suppose that would depend on the individual user's experience with them. Personally i found Cyberhawk 1.1.1.3 quite effective as a pure DLL Injector guard but that particular version does lack the ability that bellgamin expected under the Custom Rules settings found in the earlier freebie ThreatFire.
    Can't help but see a trend in earlier versions vs. latest with some security apps. LoL
    From my understanding is that newer versions contain bugfixes and protect you from actual malware while with old versions like 1 you cant be sure about that.
    Absolutely correct!
    However, in the case of Cyberhawk and a few other security apps, earlier versions are still quite up to the tasks expected while at the same time STABLE. In fact, in the endless pursuit of advancing better technology into their respective security programs, some apps begin to exhibit stability problems as more & more versions come to their completion. Not so much IMO in an effort to correct bugs but rather add more features, software apps can experience what seems like "overload" or "bloat", and that spells disappointment when experienced. And if those apps aren't modified or tuned to expectations, user's/customer's soon become disallusioned and long for earlier releases when their choice program ran excellent and without troubles.
