I'm using version 2.22 and I love it. Much better than system restore as it will take the computer all the way back to eliminate all changes made from the time you choose to revert the drive back to.

    bob

Just wanted you to know that I am using Windows ME

will it saved my a$$ 364 times now lol and im not kiding either lol

i like the old free verstion that came with gateway pc's with windows me

im curently trying out the v3. something delux but im not finding it better might actualy be worst

the old verstion seem more dependable and gave you alot more times to revert your drive

the new delux verstion dosent seem to give you more acess times

if you can find an old verstion like the 2.0 i think it be better im going to revert back to the old goback

the new verstion just seems to have a better interface same as the one used for there roxio cd easy cd creator 5 lol

When I was using Win98 and ME I used this program and as Blaze stated, it was a life-saver many times. Particularly, when 'trying' out those recently downloaded programs which then proceeded to crash your whole system.

When I bought my daughter's first laptop 2 years ago, which had Win ME installed, I installed GoBack as a simple 'no-brainer' as she knew basically nothing about computers but GoBack was essential so that any of her University work was not accidently lost. It did save her a lot of time and tears.

I eventually stopped using this when I 'discovered' PowerQuests' Second Chance, which was a similar roll-back program, but which was not as resource demanding as GoBack. There were versions of SecondChance for 98 and Me, but no versions for 2000(or XP).

These programs are much better than the system restore system that comes with Windows.

The only slight drawback I found with GoBack, was the constant churning of the hard drive as it was working in the background and I found that you needed quite a lot of memory as it could drag down your system.

I agree, again with Blaze, that the new version is no great improvement on previous versions except for the pretty GUI. Given a choice go for the delux version as the standard is rather basic.

SecondChance was in my view a great 'roll-back program', now sadly retired by PowerQuest. I was lucky, as I was able to buy several new copies for $10 each in a 'fire sale', and I still run a copy on one of my older computers( Do not try and run the same copy of SecondChance on multiple machines at home, as it recognises this and 'hoses' your machines)

Nowadays, most people prefer some sort of image-restore programs such as Acronis True Image, Norton Ghost or PowerQuests' Drive Image, particularly as most computers now come with some sort of CD/DVD copiers.

However, I would still recommend these 'roll-back' programs for newbies.

    Hi Blaze,

I don't have a Gateway PC, so -of course- I cannot compare the Gateway installation disks and TrueImage.

Of course you need to keep those Gateway installation disks cause they came with your machine.

With TrueImage (and other programs like Ghost or DriveImage) you can make a full back-up image of your harddisk. It makes it bit for bit ;)
You need to make bootable floppies or CD-ROM with the TrueImage Rescue Media Builder.
Then you can always start your PC from those floppies, and then restore your back-up image.
TrueImage is very newbie friendly !!!
If you like, I could start a new thread about TrueImage and tell a bit more about it.

    Hi Bibbe,

    Quote from their website:
    Supported operating systems:
    Windows 95 / 98 / Me / NT / 2000 / XP

I'll start in -let's say- about 24 hours a special thread for TrueImage, so we all can put there our experiences and questions. I guess that would be a good idea.

I took a look at TrueImage web site and it appears they do not boot to DOS? The biggest reason I recommended Ghost or Drive Image,
was because you could boot to DOS by floppy or CD-ROM.
Windows XP isn't so bad but I have seen too many times a System was so screwed up, you could not boot to Windows at all. Yoo could not even boot to Safe Mode. I am curious as to how you restore the image then with TrueImage.

    Thank You

I have tried TrueImage but are not satisfied with it, in case of a total restore of an image I can not depend on TrueImage, use again Drive Image.
