Questions on Incremental & differential backups

I just want to make suere I understand this properly:

If I want to make (say) daily incremental backups, I do an incremental based on the Full backup ("name") and TI9 will find the previous sequential backups for (name) and base this incremental backup on the data represented by the sum of the base and all the existing incrementals (in the same folder) and names it as "name"# where number is the next sequencial number after the current highest incremental backup number. So, I don't nee to specify the latest incremental as the base of this incremental

Is this correct??

If so, what is the numbering algorithm for differentials? Can I have a base and some incremental files made and then make a differential of the base? When I do this it just seems to increment the sequence number. Is there any way to identify that thhe latest number is a differential??

Thank you for choosing Acronis Disk Backup Software.

It's up to you. You can specify both the full image and the last incremental image as the base one to create the new incremental or differential backup.

If you create the differential backup after the incremental one, the differential image increments the sequential number. I'm afraid that you should add the description to the differential backup in order to identify it.
