PCSL Total Protection Test July 2010 Report

Interesting test here,I particularly like how they differentiate between highly prevalent malware and less common threats.Hopefully PCSL will be open to feedback in order to continue improving their future tests.

Discrepancies between Tall Emu & Emisoft ? Don't they use the same AV ?

 

Congrats to the one that continues to get over-looked, in all tests, but continues to perform very well for protection.

Yes, Panda 2011 has gotten the highest score in detection. 99.92%

 

Like I said, it is looking like a very good year for them. First Cloud and now the 2011 products are rolling out. It is going to get interesting. With Trend bringing out Titanium, and Prevx, these will be the 3 cloud scanners for AV products.

 

More than complex I would say that takes more time. I would say that check if there is an active malware in the computer does not take much time, you can start taking a look to the process in taskmanager...
You should understand that Comodo sandbox is not designed like sandboxie and they work in different ways.
Comodo sandbox will prevent the sandbox app to modify any important part of the OS like the registry keys that allow to start an app with windows...
There is more than 1 concept of sandboxing.

The underlined one's are more or less like Comodo Sandbox (limited rights)

With sandboxie you can sandbox Firefox.exe and every single change or file executed will be reverted.
With Comodo sandbox you dont need to sandbox firefox, CIS will sandbox unrecognized executable files downloaded with firefox and it will prevent any damage in the system.

Interesting test. One can see that more and more AV companies have high detections, which means choosing an AV will be more of how a particular application integrates in the host machine.

I wonder why Avira is still tested with version9. I'm curious about V10 tested with ProActiv on.

 

For sandbox issue, only you have to do is to confirm with Umesh whether he still has midunderstanding or not

We sent the product submission email before the test, if one vendor submitted software to us before the deadline, we will surely test them.
That's also why the same vendor will not appear in every time of vb test, avtest, avc or other tests. Our task is to test and it is vendor's option to engage in the test.

The September test will start the first of September? Just to know if Comodo 5 will be tested or will be Comodo 4.1

 

As they should be. False positives have caused me more problems in the last 2 years than actual malware. Issues can range from minor inconvenience to an unbootable machine.

 

Based on the Final Score (p.11):

AVG, for example, is more effective than Panda, F-Secure, Symantec, G DATA etc.

Even worse,
Rising, for example, is more effective than AVIRA AntiVir!

-Do these Results accurately reflect what actually happens in reality?

 

I dont know I only know that a lot of myths will fall when dynamic tests start to appear in every test.

 

This is also dependent on how the the tester interprets the word "Dynamic" in it's testing. Some tests say they are Dynamic when they really are not. This is what people should be watching for is how it is performed and if its truly Dynamic testing.
