OSS won't recognize Vista in dual-boot

I have a dual boot XP & Vista and have successfully split them. Both OS's both if I boot to the DD CD and mark one as active. I hide the other OS and have a shared data drive. All works fine.

However, when I try to activate OSS it doesn't recognize Vista and it leaves me with only XP. I then have to go back to DD and set vista as active to get back into vista. Attached is my bootwiz file and disk setup screenshots. I'm guessing I need to manually edit the bootwiz.oss file with the vista parameters but not sure how to do it.

Please help!

 

Try this file. I also made a correction to the XP entry to fix a bug. You had the Data partition hidden when booted to XP so I left it that way. You can always change that setting in OSS if you need to.

 

Cheers MudCrab, you're the boy. That's done the trick and all is working great now. That's saved me from having to learn how to write oss files! I guess I had the known issue where it doesn't detect the os. Are you anywhere nearer to understanding what the problem is?

The problem is simply that Acronis hasn't updated OSS to properly detect Vista in its various configurations.

In the first post, you said you split XP and Vista. Did you use the instructions on my website or a different method? I ask because I didn't test installing OSS after a separation using my instructions. It's possible a step could be done so that OSS could pick up Vista.

 

Well it was an enforced split to be honest. I previously had an XP system (work) and installed Vista (mine) the "Microsoft" way using the Vista bootmanager. All was working well but (and I know this now) every time I booted into XP it killed my restore points amongst other oddities unnoticed by me. All was well until one day when Vista decided it didn't like XP and decided automatically to reset the security descriptors on every XP file at startup. XP was brought to it's knees, but I was able to get it back enough by reapplying default security and reclaiming ownership and was able to get the data off I needed. That said the apps stopped working and it's days were numbered. It seems that I'm not the only person to whom this has happened - so beware you other dual booters!

Vista was fine so I took a true image backup, wiped the hard disk (using disk clean just to make sure) and started from scratch. I reinstalled XP by following your instructions in previous posts by making it the only partition, then restored my Vista image to the spare space. By marking as active each OS booted fine (eventually after rewriting vista's boot files etc), but the problem came when I tried to get OSS working, so it was ditched and I had to carry a CD caddy around with DD in order to change OS. But now I don't! Maybe I had some old config lurking about as OSS had previously been used but didn't sit too well with the Vista bootmanager (it did work tho, you just had to choose the right OS based on your OSS selection - if you didn't you got a STOP error (21c?) on boot).

Maybe my Vista setup was unique, or I had some other config hangover but either way I knew it should be fixable as both were independently fine.

I learnt a fair bit about partitions and boot managers too in this process - and your pages were damn helpful.
