Norton 2003

Hi !

my AV, Norton 2002, is expiring soon. My question are:

Is it better to buy the cd version or download it from Symantec website?

As I've got version 2002, is version 2003 similar?

As a Canadian would I encounter any problem with the currency if the site is in USA?

You might want to read that.
I always download and buy online only. If you have a visa card it should be no problem.
When I buy online, I always print out the final page that acknowledges the transaction, and always back up the keys or serial numbers all over the place. If you're on a high speed connection it's no problem to download the proggies.
Asking for the CD always costs more and takes more time, but some don't mind.

Yes, printing the page is a smart thing to do. It'll be my "receipt" along with the serial number. I always write them (any kind of numbers, logins numbers etc) in a notebook on my real desk. So, if one day my pc will crash, the numbers will survive!

Ok I'll ask the "computer store" tech and see how they charge. If it's a big difference, I'll download it, if it's just a couple of dollars, I'll buy it. Thank you for your advice.

I no u said ur happy with norton, but u can do a better job with a few freeware apps like:

JV16
Spybot
AVG
Javacool's tools . . .
and
AdAware

That's ok Libbo, you mentioned good freewares here. Well let's see. I've got JV16, Spybot and, Ad Aware in my computer. I don't know what is "Javacool" and "AVG".
Could you give me just a brief summary?

I have installed already many programs, some worked okay and some gave me a hard time.

My brother uses Norton.
He bought the cd from a local store.
I believe it was Norton System Works 2003.(the program with the av,Clean Sweep,etc..)
I was watching prices for him at Amazon and 3 or 4 months ago Amazon and Symantec both offered rebates on Norton 2003 programs on cd.
You could check out a local store for rebate options.
It seems to me that Norton is one antivirus that is available in lot of places, especially on the internet.
A lot of times the prices are very competitive.

Finally, this is what I did yesterday! Went to a local store, bought Norton and then I've my receipt duplicated. If I send it to Symantec's company, I'm supposed to get a 30$ refund. Which is around the price we pay online.

yup it always good to have cd and check see if it let you run it as a a boot disk read up on it

JV16 is not recomended for beginer newbies at all as a mater of fact only an advance newbie might have a clue on how to use it with out destroyin your pc.

whats the difrence between advance newbie and beginer

beginer knows how to check e-mail get online may of heard what a port is and knows that the norton icon at the right bottom corner of his screen that says norton isnt just a perty icon lol

an advance newbie has heard of a hardware fire wall knows how to run most of the important stuff on programs like tds and understands registry settings and the pc registery on start up what he can disable and enable with out messing up his or her pc

JV16 power tools or the other one made by the same uy in the hands of a beginer newbie is dangeriouse iwould not recomend anything that can kill your registry with one mouse click to a newbie lol

just one thing, if I have spyguards or any other applications that prevents nasty keys to install on my PC, will I need Adware or Spybot anymore? Or do they deal with different keys?
