NOD32 crashed my computer

    My antivirus descovered a Win32.Farethem.S as a dangerous virus, I surfed the net looking for it and eventually found NOD32 as the sole antivirus that can delete it. I downloaded the trial version (I already have other licenced av)and installed it. Once done, I rebooted my computer and, axcept for the password starting window, I have nothing else. Twice I could see my desktop image but without no icons, no chance to enter the start menu...Nothing! I'm afraid I have to format my computer!!!
    Anyone can help me? At least the sole window I have on my desktop is NOD32 one.

    Did you uninstall the other AV before you installed NOD32?

    If you hold down Ctrl/Alt/Del does the Task Manager come up? If so End Task on NOD.

    I didn't see where it was ask to hold down CAD and see if the task manager will come up?

    Can you "Slave" your HDD off a PC running Nod32, then have the main drive scan your infected drive. It should clean it from there :D

    If Stan hadn't repeated it, I would still be in the dark about what Paolo's post said since, unfortunately, I don't know a word of Italian. :) So, Paul, I'm glad Stan posted and clarified Paolo's post!

    Sorry, guys :) I wrote my message in Italian because Daniela is Italian.
    Anyway... the problem was this: Daniela had already two different antiviruses installed on her system, before she attempted to install NOD32. For this reason she experienced a problem with her PC: amon.sys, the device driver of AMON for Windows NT/2000/XP, is not compatible with other antivirus monitors. BTW: during installation, NOD32 warns the user about this issue.
    When the PC locks up in this way, there is not any NOD stuff to kill by the Task Manager, since the problem usually concerns the device driver amon.sys. It cannot be killed like a normal application. In this case, to solve the problem, one must avoid that the O.S. loads in memory amon.sys.
    I know that Anders helped Daniela to accomplish this task.
