NOD32 and Registry

do any of you know of a good registry cleaners that is compatible with NOD32? so far, I heard of Registry Mechanic and CCleaner (http://ccleaner.com)-- both are rated highly. I think CCleaner is coded in assembly language like NOD32.

 

I've used CCleaner for quite a while, never had a problem with any cleanup utility against NOD32. CCleaner is a fantastic "junk" file remover, doesn't do much in cleaning the registry though...I don't know of any free ones that really do a good job on the registry, not since the old Microsoft regclean back in the Win9X days.

 

I've used RegSupreme with a lot of success, and it's never affected NOD32. It cleans out a signifigant amount of the registry beyond CCleaner, and won't allow a cleaning to be finished without first making a backup.

edit: RegSupreme isn't free, the standard version is $12. It does have a long full-featured trial. If you do a lot of software installation/deinstallation, then it's worth every penny and then some.

 

I just posted about registryfix (http://www.registryfix.com) - it's a paid product and I had it knock out the control center from the system tray, so I'd put that in the classification of "not 100% NOD32 safe" - but a reinstall of NOD32 put back what was missing, and it *DID* fix the issues we had on the machine.

 

Registry Mechanic is what I use and never had a prob yet.

 

TuneUp Utilities 2006 have the most secure and thorough registry cleaner.
Norton WinDoctor 2005 also works pretty well on solving errors (although it has some problems with .NET Framework 2.0 but nothing serious).
System Mechanic also looks fine but tends to corrupt certain Wise (or similar) installers. If you want power, JV16 PowerTools 2004 are the only choice (as far as i tried version 2005 it's very degraded compared to 2004).
Also a very powerful tool to manage registry. No problems with eather using NOD32.

 

Rejzor I agree with you a 100%. I just bought it and it's awesome, no one would be sorry if they bought this product.

Both RegSeeker & RegCleaner are NOD32 safe & freeware. Both are excellent apps. Google is your friend.

 

Thanks for all the feedback. I purchased RegSupreme Pro. AshG, do you know if RegSupreme or RegSupreme Pro gets rid of MRUs (Most Recently Used) as in Microsoft Office, WinZip, and WinRar? Also, do it delete Microsoft Internet Explorer's index.dat file? I hear the index.dat file contains a treasure trove of infomation including browsing history, etc Thanks.

I use Ccleaner and RegSeeker, I am looking into getting a third register cleaner/editor.

 

I tested a lot of registry tools and finally found these 2 to be the best (I have NOD on my machine):

- one included in jv16PowerTools - RegSupreme (great)
- Registry Healer (good one with finding empty keys) (great)

These two are really the best.

You may also try free RegScrubXP v 3.25 (good)

There is also a very useful free registry tool - ERUNT (great). It provides a utility to backup your registry and another one to make it compact.

Google for all of them and give them a try.

The rest of the tools I tried gave me different results each time, or the keys they tried to clean were listed again on the next run (after reboot).

I also like another product there called XP Smoker. It optimizes your compueter settings for faster performance, particularly while surfing. There is also a pay version for this siftware, but this site has the last free version.

 

I'm a jv16 believer also. Sometimes put my head on the block and take out all it finds without undesired affect. Take out all it finds? all red and green entries. (Wouldn't recommend to everyone though)
I have yet to find a Nod32 entry in any registry cleanup.

 

Have been playing around with TuneUp Utilities for a few days, but I found it to be too thorough, to be honest. It deletes more than I liked. Mediplayer didn't open certain files anymore and my startup programs in the systray were screwed up and so on.
I would like to warn people who don't have a lot of experience......not to use this program.
It didn't effect Nod32....that's true.

Have been using Registry Healer for a few days, but it is too eager in deleting things. Mediaplayer files refused to play after install. My Nod32 controlcentre didn't show up in the systray and another few things were screwed up.
I would certainly not recommend this program to people with little experience.
It sure as hell finds a lot, but also deletes a lot.

putin ---> There is no 100% secure tool. I've never had any problems with RegHealer, but it needs some tune up. Probably your problems were with "Run Entries" section of RH where I found the entry for NOD - it should be set to "leave the entry without changes". But probably this is not a good app for people who want automatic registry cleaner without any manual settings and exeptions (they have to be set only once on the first run of RH).

And this is why you should always do a registry backup before any changes. Once you did a backup you can play with RH and see what should be set and excluded. After that it is really a great tool.

I am a Chinese, So I use "windows优化大师", a Chinese product, it is a powerful registry cleaner. I also have used tuneup utilities, TweakNow PowerPack and Registry Mechanic,but, in my opinion, all of them are not better than windows优化大师, at least in China. En... its English name is "Windows Opti Master"

 

i use jv16 powertools 2005.. i would recommend using either jv16 powertools build 1.4 or the newer jv16 PT 2005.. i also use ccleaner.. i use them both..
